The Modern Era & Mass Production
1914 Mary Phelps Jacob(later known as Caresse Crosby) received a U.S. patent for the 1st lightweight “backless brassier” made from silk handkerchiefs and ribbon.
1928: Cup sizes A,B,C & D were introduced by the Rosenthal creators. Widespread manufacturing took off as WW1 steel shortages ended the heavy corset era.
And now we make bras up to “LL” cups.
A picture of that 1st bra followed by a few of latest bras we have to choose from. There is now a bra for every body.

The History of Bras (2)

1859 - Henry Lesher received an early US patent for a bust supporting garment.

1869 - French designer Herminie Carole introduced the “corselet gorge” splitting a heavy corset into a waist-shaper bottom & a shoulder-strapped top piece.

1893 - Marie Tucek patented a device featuring separate pockets for each breast and shoulder straps, resembling an early underwire precursor to the modern bra.

All I can say is that it all sounds very uncomfortable.

Sculptress’s brand new sports bra in Pale Green has arrived. It comes in sizes 12-24 cups DD (18-24) to K (12-14) back size 24 comes in cup sizes DD-GG. A very comfortable sports bra with great support and lovely wide straps. Limited addition in this colour. I’m expecting great things from this bra it ticks all the boxes for a great sports bra.

Over the next few weeks I’ll cover the history of bras.
Did you know the earliest records of breast supporting garments date to Ancient Greece & Rome. Around the 1st millennium BCE women tied cloth bands around their chests. The Greek garment was called an “apodesmos or mastodeton” under or over their clothes the Roman Garney’s called an atrophies or mammillare.
As a HH cup I’m glad of all the research that goes into the modern bra. There’s a great fitting bra for every body.

Did you know that in one hour of vigorous sports that involves running & jumping your breasts bounce up to 10,000 times. If your a young girl with a D cup this means an approximate movement of 20cm if not wearing a supportive sports bra and the movement will increase with cup size & age. This movement can damage your Coopers Ligaments.
Please get fitted into a sports bra that works for the sport you participating in.
