Photos donated to the State library archives in 1978 and HistoriTISM has brought this photo to light.
I believe this actually became a preserved parkland not long before this photo was taken that is perhaps within 10 years hence the high quality of the remnant vegetation- remember no bulldozers in those days so it actually took time to carve a parkland out of the forest.
We have commented below in the initial Post and I believe this is the present day Queen's Park once known as the old Gardens and before that the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens before the North Bundaberg version was created in the 80s.
As I stated there this park is seemingly shunned by the council and it's not even on any of their websites the last time I looked, and yet it is a botanic gem so close to the city centre. Our Council needs to do much better in the year 2025.
And I'm going to hold out an olive branch to this council- something I haven't done for a very very long time and I ask them to put their arrogance aside and work with Bundaberg Landcare and the people to make this City a subtropical gem.
It doesn't take a lot of money and you can apply for Federal grants ,all that is required is the will of Council ,we will assist and offer the very best advice. That way we will end up with a Paradise in 30 years time instead of a concrete and bitumen prison colony.
It is up to you we are offering the knowledge, it is up to you to take up that offer with only the best intentions in mind for the good of the people of Bundaberg.
We are ready to talk anytime.
