This pantry craft is a favorite activity of ours for
It’s a great way to use leftover dried beans and even expired garden seeds! We used salt dough (recipe below), or you can use air dry or modeling clay if you want it to last longer and be more weatherproof for out in the garden. Mod podge works well for securing seeds that are still loose once the clay has dried.

✨ Easy Salt-Dough ✨
2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 cup of water

Thoroughly mix the first two ingredients together. Gradually stir in the water bit by bit, until you get a dough-like consistency. Form it into a ball and knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes. (If the dough gets too sticky, add some more flour.) Roll the dough out flat (not too thin) and use a ceramic plate or round baking pan to cut out the circles.

Fairy bread with edible floral sprinkles
Reposting this for and the coming Spring.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Australia, fairy bread is a firm staple at many a child's party. To make it, you take the cheapest, whitest, softest loaf of sliced bread you can find (none other will do), slather each slice with butter, then press them into a bed of sprinkles, or as we call them, hundreds and thousands. Cut into triangles, pile on a plate, watch them disappear within seconds.

Now I don't mean to diminish the famous deliciousness that is fairy bread, but this floral version felt like REAL fairy bread. It. Was. Amazing.

We gathered a petal mixture of rose, lavender, brassica, marigold, plum, dandelion, viola, daisy, baby fennel. (I ensured all the varieties we picked were safe.) We all teared and chopped them into sprinkles. We took our soft cheap white bread, lavished it with butter, sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkled our petals on top. Then a final dusting of sparkly sugar.

You may argue that anything on white bread with that much butter and sugar would taste good, and you'd probably be right.

But this was really special. The perfume was heady. The textures were yielding. We were eating actual fairy food.

If you're having a fairy garden party during lockdown, I strongly recommend a nectar-sweet batch of these. They're pure magic.
Are there any 'unusual' plants you love eating? 🌼

β™₯️ This Valentines Day is also Sweethearts Day! β™₯️

This flagship campaign through Heart kids is to raise much needed awareness of congenital and childhood acquired heart disease. We currently have heart beads bracelets available for purchase for $5 from Willow Tree Kindergarten.
The beads symbolise those given to the children during their hospital stays, with each distinctive bead representing a specific challenge, procedure, or treatment that children with CHD have endured.

Make Valentines Day that little bit sweeter with a bracelet for your loved ones! Available all this week at Willow Tree!
