I am hosting a Crop Swap and Cancer Council Morning Tea combo two Sundays from now, on Sunday 24 May at the Canberra Tannery Underwood St oaks Estate from 11am to 1pm. So bring a mug and some Tim Tams or scones etc, or bring some veggies, fruit, seedlings, cuttings jams or chutneys, and bring along some money to raise funds to support research and treatment of Breast Cancer. WE all know someone that will be affected by this, so it’s important. Last year we raised $1000 but I know we can do better this year. Please share with your friends and family. There is plenty of room and parking for cars. It will be undercover so don’t worry about the weather. I will provide the tea, coffee and Milo. I hope to see you there – this is always a lovely morning.

Update: the sewing machine is still broken. A few customers have asked about washing instructions for ugh boots. See the attachment below. Basically, not too hot, not too long and keep it gentle.

Bad news folks: one of the sewing machines needed to make the lambskin footwear is broken. Without it, we can’t finish the ugh boots/slippers and production has stopped. With just a few days until the beginning of the Peak Season, this couldn’t have happened at a worse time. We have already run out of Womens size 8 ugh boots and Canberra Tannery size 7 ugh boots. Size 9 and size 11 look like they won’t last a week either. We can’t get the machine looked at until May 4 and since we don’t know what is wrong, we don’t know how long it will take to fix…or even if it is fixable. If we don’t have the size you need in stock (and with Mother’s Day coming up) we can offer you gift vouchers – either hard copy in store, or online via the website www.canberratannery.com.au We wont be taking orders over this period because it would become too overwhelming. If you purchase a gift voucher and we can’t supply the product you need/want, we will refund the amount. Another advantage of buying a gift voucher is: you will only ever pay the price as quoted on the voucher, even when prices go up (once/if the machine is operational again). All our costs have gone up, and we would like to pay the people that make your footwear a higher wage. Please tag people in this post or share this info – we don’t want people to drive to the tannery and feel they wasted a trip. If you desperately need lambskin footwear, we recommend L.A Uggs in Fairy Meadow or Mortels near Newcastle.

If the soles of your ugh boots or slippers are this smooth and flat, it's way past time to update your lambskin footwear. You wouldn't drive with tyres that have no tread - it should be the same with ugh boots. Every year about 3 people come in to the tannery and say they tripped over in their old boots because the soles had worn flat. We have had 2 already so far - don't be the third! It is not worth it.

When the leaves on the trees at the start of Underwood St start to change colour, then you know it’s time to get your new ugh boots or slippers. Time is running out to beat the rush in peak season. So ‘hop to it’ like this early morning visitor today.

It’s been busy at the Canberra Tannery these last two days and will get busier. Hurry and get you ugh boot and slipper needs sorted before we run out of stock, like we do every year. Have a look at the rubber soles of your old ugh boots/slippers and if they are getting worn out, it’s definitely time to come in and update them. Every year three people come in and say they slipped over in their old worn-out boots. We had our first one this year. Don’t be one of the other two! It’s not worth it. See you soon.

Ok. So if you have been to the Canberra Tannery, you probably already know about our 3 Golden Rules

1. Do your own shopping. Your feet are unique. So are the boots. Only you can choose the right pair for you.

2. Do your shopping between November and April (the off-peak season). Ie NOW! This is when we have the most range on the shelves so the chances of you finding what you want and need are the greatest.

3. Bring your old ugh boots or slippers with you. Doesn’t matter if we didn’t make them. We can tell what size they were and if they were the right choice for you.

You get a star for doing each of those things. It is not supposed to be a punishment – it’s about making sure you get the best result. Three-star customers get a better result than two-star customers. And Two-star customers get a better result than 1-star customers and so on.
Well as of two weeks ago, we have a new Rule. Rule no. 4

Buy your new lambskin footwear before the old pair wears out!

Don’t wait until the old ones have a hole in them. Too many people are wearing ugh boots with holes or held together by ducktape all through winter. It means you aren’t warm and you are paying higher heating bills. You need a warm new pair of ugh boots before winter. Beat the rush that always happens in winter and update your worn out pair now. Be a 4-Star customer and achieve Ugh Boot Perfection.

After a long summer break that included a lot of pasta and chianti, the Canberra Tannery will be re opening this Saturday January 24. Just in time for you to get your new ugh boots for the coming season. There is no better way to mark the Australia Day Long Weekend than getting a new pair of soft comfy ugh boots or slippers. Beat the inevitable winter rush. Bring in your old ugh boots as a size reference and achieve a 3 Star Rating - the highest rating there is and ughboot perfection.

Not a great photo. But what we have here is a batch of Canberra Tannery size 7 scuffs cut out and ready to be sewn up. They are all the same size but each pair will feel different because the wool is different, or the skin stretches this way or that, or they have a collar or no collar. We like the fact that no two pairs are the same because each person has unique feet as well. The Canberra Tannery is a workshop, not a shop - there is a difference. We are not trying to sell you something just to make a sale. We want to match each customer to the exact correct product for their needs.
