The show put on at the Patrick White Lawns last night started out a trifle warm but ended with perfect Summer weather. There is something about seeing theatre in the open....still a few shows left for Taming of the Shew. Tickets at www.lakespeare.com.

My Design Award entry, named 'Say it with Flowers' against a theme of 'Celebration'
What better way of interpreting this year’s Millinery Design Award than with
a bouquet of flowers? Appropriate for any celebration, weddings, special
occasions, celebrations of life or ‘just because’.
Celebrating traditional materials and using what already exists, or up-cycling
into a new life.
Celebrating making an attractive hat, not constrained by anything other
than imagination.
Celebrating millinery associations that continue through challenging times
and offer such opportunities to members.
Celebrating making a hat.

Meet ‘A New Looking Glass for Alice', the entry for the 2021 Millinery Association of Australia's Design Awards. t
The theme - The 20's - past, present and future.
I chose to interpret a potential post pandemic fashion direction of the current decade. There is no doubt the last 18 months have accelerated the increasingly causal approach to attire and coupled with the focus on slow fashion - relaxed, practical, classic, adaptable and neutral are apt words for this entry. The flash of colour on the underside of the brim (spot the ladybird) should satisfy the extroverts among us and is a nod towards the competitive component of the competition...
A pragmatic approach to sustainability is inherent in the construction - the crown and brim can be separated, allowing for different future combinations (and perhaps a new way to build a returning clientele). The loose luxurious silk bow is coloured with a pot of tea and is removable.
Here is the link to view all entries and vote for your favourite. https://millineryaustralia.org/maa-design-award.../...
Many thanks to the MAA for undertaking this competition and particularly members in SA for hosting.

A trimming detail created for a recent commission inspired me to rummage through the (somewhat vast) stock of braids....and the result was a posy of flowers in natural tones, popularly touted to be the trend for the next few years, as we move towards a more sustainable way of managing our wardrobes.
