Our first range includes individually designed, one-off, classic fashions: Each one includes a pocket! CO-OPT meaning: Use in a role different to the original one, or to take possession of something to use for your own purpose. CO-OPT is a grass-roots, Australian endeavour with a specific purpose: To create new treasures from pre-loved items, saving products from going to landfill, and designing c
lassic pieces with longevity. Mass production of designs leads to boredom of one's wardrobe, and where were the pockets? The history of the pocket, on women's clothes, began with detachable ones, tied inside layers of skirts. As fashions became narrower, closer-fitting, it became necessary to wear pockets attached to the outside, which eventually led to the advent of the handbag. Meanwhile, men's clothing continued to have practical pockets sewn on. In the early decades of the 20th Century, woman gained more freedoms, such as the right to vote, and began to co-opt men's fashions, boyish styles and silhouette, which meant pockets! Over time, probably because handbags were everywhere, pockets disintegrated in pale imitations of themselves. FAKE ones even invaded many designs. Who needs a fake pocket? And so began our first clothing line. Unique, quality, slow made, up-styled clothing, that reduces the environmental impact through the promotion of sustainable practises. At CO-OPT, we recognise that fashions come and go, but wearing something that reflects your individual style, flatters your shape, and that is unique to your wardrobe, means that it will outlive seasonal trends. Owning a piece like this means it will be a 'keeper'. Our mission:
*To supply high quality, one-off designs to the fashion-conscious consumer who values minimising their impact on the environment.
*To promote classic styling for consumers of varied figures who desire to express their individuality.
*To draw on historical references that flatter the form, thereby ensuring the longevity of our fashion designs and style.
*To foster the need for pockets in women's fashion.
*To highlight the strength in femininity by incorporating masculine design features. We hope you will join us on this journey of discovery of who we are, who you are, and who we both want to become.
