Heirloom Lace Gown 🪡 I began designing this piece over four years ago, however there were a few elements I just couldn’t quite perfect.
Rather than forcing it, I let it rest. Something I’ve learned over my almost nine years of Coven is that the design process has its own rhythm, and the answers always arrive when they’re meant to.
The breakthrough came in the form of a softly elasticated waist. I’ve never been drawn to zippers ~ in fact, I think I’ve only used them twice across all my designs, so it was important to find a solution that felt true to me.
Paired with a delicate, understated frill, the waist became both functional and beautiful.
I wanted this gown to offer versatility, and to be worn belted if desired, but to feel entirely complete on its own. It also had to remain maternity-friendly, as always, and of course, be comfortable.
The elasticated waist, finished with a subtle frill that can disappear beneath a belt, became the answer. This was the detail that held the design in limbo for so long, and once it clicked, everything else fell into place.
As a slow fashion brand, our pieces take time, often a year or more from concept, to release. Our Heirloom Lace Gown took even longer, with its intricate detailing, carefully placed frills, and considered construction.
I’m so proud of where it’s landed, and I’m so excited to finally share this very special piece with you.
I hope you love it as much as I do.
