This Saturday, 12 September!
If you’ve wanted to learn to paint with watercolour, this is the workshop for you!

Learn techniques through mindfully guided exercises, under the expert guidance of Helen Evans. Alongside her decades of teaching experience, something we truly love about classes with Helen - a full time professional artist herself- is how generous she is with her knowledge.

Join us for “Watercolour: A Gentle Introduction”, a no pressure, small-group workshop designed to introduce you to the fascinating world of watercolour, through exploration and experimentation.

9:30am-3:30pm
Saturday 12 September 2026
$225 + booking fee per person (covers all materials - just bring yourself and a desire to learn something new!)

Book your ticket at: https://www.the churn room.com.au/workshops

What an amazing two days with this wonderful group of first-time doll makers. ✨

From those very first tentative beginnings to seeing a whole collection of characters emerge, each with their own personality, story and little pieces of magic.

Doll making asks us to embrace the unknown… to try new techniques, solve problems, take creative risks and sometimes simply trust the process. And this group did exactly that!

I loved watching everyone rise to the challenges, experiment with new ideas and gradually bring their characters to life. No two dolls were alike — because no two imaginations are alike.

What they achieved in just two days was incredible. More than simply learning techniques, they created characters with stories waiting to be told. 💕🧵🪡

Thank you all for being so open, brave and willing to play. I hope this is just the beginning of your doll-making adventures. ✨

Today’s Wanderings in Mixed Media workshop was all about letting go and seeing where the page might take us…

Lots of messy play, pushing boundaries, exploring colour, texture, words and pictures — layering, scribbling, scratching, covering things up and discovering unexpected little moments along the way.

There’s something wonderfully freeing about mixed media. No rules, no perfect outcome, just curiosity and the courage to experiment. Sometimes you have to make a bit of a mess before the magic starts to appear!

Such a gorgeous group of creative wanderers today, all exploring their own unique visual stories. 🎨✨

Today’s The Road Less Travelled workshop was another beautiful day of creativity. ✨

A small group, but my goodness they worked hard! We explored layered watercolour landscape techniques, creating depth and atmosphere, before developing the characters and stories that inhabit those imagined worlds.

What I loved most was hearing that everyone wants to continue on their own watercolour journey. For me, that’s always such a lovely part of teaching — knowing that the day might be the beginning of another creative adventure.

Beautiful work, wonderful stories and a reminder that sometimes the most interesting journeys begin when we take the road less travelled. 🎨✨
