Did you know! đŸ§¶

Crocheting is basically a full-body workout for your brain. It engages multiple areas simultaneously—from your motor cortex for hand movements to your frontal lobe for planning patterns—and can lead to measurable improvements in how your brain functions.

Here are the key ways crocheting helps your brain:

1. Boosts Cognitive Skills, Memory Retention: Keeping track of rows, counting stitches, and following complex patterns forces the brain to use its working memory.
Executive Function: Planning a project, selecting colors, and solving problems (like realizing you missed a stitch three rows back) strengthens your brain’s ability to strategize and execute tasks.
Preventative Health: A Mayo Clinic study suggests that engaging in crafts like crocheting can reduce the risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) by 30–50% in older adults.

2. Reduces Stress and AnxietyThe "Relaxation Response": The rhythmic, repetitive motion of crocheting activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers your heart rate and blood pressure.
Hormone Regulation: Repetitive hand movements trigger the release of serotonin and dopamine (the "feel-good" chemicals) while reducing cortisol (the stress hormone).
Grounding: For many, it acts as a form of "active meditation." It gives the "monkey mind"—that part of our brain that jumps from worry to worry—a specific job to do, which helps quiet racing thoughts.

3. Enhances Fine Motor Skills
Neuroplasticity: Learning new stitches and techniques builds and strengthens neural pathways. This bilateral (using both hands) and coordinated movement is excellent for maintaining dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Neurorehabilitation: Because it links motor and attentional networks, crocheting is increasingly being looked at for neurorehabilitation to help people recover from nervous system injuries or disorders.

4. Fosters Social and Emotional Health
Sense of Accomplishment: Finishing a project provides a tangible reward, which can significantly boost self-esteem and combat feelings of depression or worthlessness.
Combating Loneliness: Participating in crochet circles or online communities provides vital social interaction, which is a major factor in maintaining overall brain health as we age.

So there you have it, crocheting is the key to a healthy, happy life 😄

I have decided to change my page name to accurately reflect what I am doing. When my page was first created, it was to showcase the projects I was crocheting using other designers patterns as well as a few of my own.

I am now concentrating wholly and solely on my own mosaic overlay designs, so I need my page to align with my design name.

Both patterns have left and right handed written instructions as well as a 1 page chart and a multi page chart.

A huge thank you to pattern testers, Fiona Leesley, Karen Louie and Aimee Waters, your contributions are very much appreciated.
