Droughts can be so cruel, and this one is a rough one. With no real rain to speak of since June, we’ve had to make some tough calls on which parts of the garden get protected, and which parts we need to let go of. Lawn and a summer veggie patch (which I love so much) have been sacrificed so that we can keep the bulk of our investment alive… because after all, that’s what a garden is, right? An investment in time, money, energy… and water.

We’ve lost entire trees worth of fruit overnight because the animals are struggling for food too… it’s all a bit disheartening.

Instagram so often paints pretty, filtered versions of life, but there’s a flip side. There is a kind of beauty in this too I suppose, albeit not the kind I’d choose. To all my fellow gardeners, farmers and those working the land, I hope you’re finding a way through. This too shall pass πŸ’›

Morning vintage lovers! I have decided to part with my darling plant cart, and so many of you admired it over the years so I thought I would give you first dibs on it. She’s displayed many a hydrangea & buddleija plant for sale, and now it’s time for her to show off someone else’s greenery πŸ’š // $275 //

It’s time for my annual β€˜hydrangea appreciation’ post! Isn’t she a beauty? And all from a cutting! As you can see I have some very *PINK!* ones flowering in the nook… probably not my first colour choice but they’re still putting on quite the show. Maybe I’ll try to turn them blue πŸ’™πŸ€” Have any of you done that successfully??

Apologies for the lack of updates recently, vintage lovers. The Etsy store has been pumping along in the lead up to Christmas! Don’t forget, if you see anything on there you like, sing out as you can save on shipping and fees if you come to me directly.

Fingers crossed for rain tonight! πŸ’›

How have you been, vintage lovers? I thought I’d check in with an update.

The restoration of character-filled pieces continues over here at the Three Oaks, and I just had to share this beauty with you all! I sourced this vintage Oregon wood worker’s bench with the hope of turning it into a gorgeous outdoor table for my mum’s new pergola. As with a lot of old work benches, it had one fabulous bit of timber, and the rest was just cheap ply. (See last pic for its original state)
Together my partner Justin and I sourced some matching Oregon to complete the top, and he got to work piecing it all together and restoring it – and this is the end result! The timber has such a rich tone, and the old vice and drawer with the heart-shaped handle just had to stay. It goes to its new home this weekend.

Giving new life to old pieces is such a worthwhile use of your time – this one will no doubt outlive us all! πŸ’›

It’s become a bit of a tradition over the last few years for my partner and I to visit the β€˜Hidden Gardens’ festival in the Adelaide Hills for my birthday, and last week was no exception. These historic properties are not normally open to the public, and offer a glimpse into what our own gardens might look like in another century or so (and if we bought the neighbouring 10 or so blocks to go with it 😬). It’s hard to believe these places are just up the road, most of them look like something out of an English magazine! I thought you might enjoy some snapshots from our day out. πŸ’›

// This week marks four years since I began Three Oaks Vintage. In that time, I’ve seen my business mature and develop, and expand into other selling platforms. I’ve met so many of you gorgeous people in person, and after decades in customer service, I can categorically say you’re the best customers ever!

With development comes change, and I now find myself needing to alter things, to focus my attention on the parts of my business which are growing the fastest. Going forward, I will be reducing the time dedicated to selling items on this local page, so I can expand my Etsy shop.

To put things into perspective, each sale post placed on this page represents about 8 hours of my time (sourcing, collecting, cleaning, polishing, researching, stylising, and finally posting to this platform.)

Until now, I have essentially been running two different businesses, and I’m finding that I haven’t been able to dedicate sufficient time to either of them, and as a result I feel like neither are getting the attention they deserve.

Of course, anything posted to this page previously remains available for sale, and I will still keep you all updated on the exciting lives of chickens, garden developments, and handy hints for polishing, pruning and stylising. Anything you have asked me to source or would like me to source – I will continue to hunt them down for you!

I encourage you to pop over to my Etsy page in the coming weeks – there is a bunch of stuff I’ve not posted here, and soon there will be a lot more! Anything that takes your fancy can still be purchased from me directly, at a saving of around 30%, as you’ll be avoiding all their crazy fees!

I will still look at opening my garden and show room in some form during spring, but it may look a little different… I will keep you posted.

That’s all the updates I have for now. Thank you all so much for your ongoing support over these past four years – it’s seriously flown by!

Enjoy your weekend, vintage lovers! πŸ’›
