A cancelled flight means we had a night in Lerwick. Another wander around and lunch in Scalloway before we joined the knitters hanging out at the beautiful Islesburgh Community Centre. It was a school and has the most gorgeous stairways and a big skylight over this space.
Flying back to Aberdeen tonight.

We finished our Shetland Wool Week with a lovely casual session at Hoswick Visitor Centre hosted by Katie and her family from Neilanell.
It was such a lovely way to finish our first SWW. 😍

We’ll be back to do it all again another time 🧶

Tuesday
A trip to Whalsay for a needle felting class for Clancy and I. A short ferry from Laxo and a lovely class with Peerie Oorick.
Back to Bigton for lunch and a shawl pin whittling class with Paparwark Furniture

Wednesday
We called in to the Scalloway workshop of Ninian to checkout their modern setup then continuing on to The Happening at Ollaberry Hall. A beautiful spread for lunch and a great exhibition by local makers. I bought a couple of patterns from Mandy at Olach Designs. Then back to the Shetland Wool Week Hub to collect our pins and annual. How’s the map with everyone’s origin!
Clancy had a couple of hours at the pool and we finished the day with a delicious dinner at Fjara Cafe Bar

Monday.
A tour of the Sumburgh Head Lighthouse grounds, hearing the stories from its construction and World War Two. We aced the weather that day.
In the afternoon I went to a class to learn knitting a moebius cowl. A good stretch for the brain!

Sunday is the official start of Shetland Wool Week. We started with a trip to Yell for the Burravoe Craft Fair where we chatted to the lovely locals about their beautiful work and then had a delicious lunch. The soup is a local specialty - Reestit Mutton and veg. It was life affirming.
In the evening we went to the Opening event which was very fun. 640 people in the room, almostall with their 2025 beanie (toorie).

In 2015 I came across a beautiful beanie pattern called Baa-ble by Donna Smith Designs. It was the beanie pattern for an even called Shetland Wool Week and as well as being a beautiful pattern for our one year old baby, it became a pattern that became the choice for gifting. Fibre Tribe’s Andy is the fair isle knitter amongst us and he’s made heaps of these in last 10 years.
That little thought of ‘oooh, Wool Week, that sounds amazing’ has culminated with our first visit 10 years later, and Cath, Andy and the apprentice Clancy (now 11!) are in Shetland for Wool Week.
