Went looking for swords over the weekend, fishing the southern edges of the trench. ⚔️

Didn’t find much life in the deep scatter layer and the only bites had were squid smashing the baits every hour. Quiet on the swords, but that’s fishing.

Made up for it with some solid mahi for the table, plus a chaotic boat-side loss on a very large bull mahi that would’ve been an absolute horse.

Water is still sitting at a warm 22.7°C out wide, so if marlin are still on your mind, there’s definitely a window left before the storms roll in. 🎣🌊

Not the bite we were looking for yesterday!

While setting the lures, Andy leaned down behind me to grab a bag. I felt the lure catch, and at first glance, thinking it was caught on clothing, I was shocked to see a 10/0 hanging from his nose.

With nothing worthy of cutting the hooked we managed to squash the barb and safely removed it.

We fished out the day without raising any marlin.

The Eliminator had a solid day offshore yesterday, landing 3 Yellowfin to 30kg.

We arrived to a quiet ocean with very little sign of life. We pushed south along the edge with the water temps sitting at 22.6°C.

Eventually it came together with consistent flying fish packs, super fast-moving bird packs and a couple of well-timed intercepts got us the bites.
