Great to see the Corio Bowls will be looked after,,,, Big Al is a Geelong skateboarding legend, one of the most passionate people I know with all things skateboarding,,,,
We appreciate all he has done for skating.

A set of skate bowls with origins as an outlet for teens in a tough Geelong suburb, once visited by Tony Hawk, may soon be preserved long-term through heritage protection.

🏆 Gail Couper Reigns 🏆

Gail Couper isn’t just a name etched in local surfing folklore—she’s a true icon of Australian women’s surfing.
A long-time teacher at Lorne and a powerhouse competitor, Gail dominated the Victorian titles and made waves at Bells and beyond

This image captures her during one of her many triumphs—holding trophies from yet another stellar performance at the Australian Titles.

Gail’s victories at Australian National Titles included wins in 1966, 1967, 1971, 1972 and 1975.

It’s been just over 55 years since we opened our first store in 1969, at the top of High St Belmont (Geelong) and boy what a ride it has been!

Christmas Eve (24th Dec 2024) will be our last day of trading. We are really proud of what Speakys has achieved over the years, which includes many firsts within the industry and the opportunity to sponsor many talented local Geelong kids. We may even hold the title as being one of the longest running Independent Surf Shops in Australia. We have had amazing staff over the years; many who have gone on to have wonderful careers and some who are still associated with the Surf, Skate and Snow Industry.

We have also had fabulous customers. Many of you are now fourth generation customers and we consider you part of the greater Speakys Family.

Small independent family businesses are finding it really tough. Please go out and support your local Milk Bar, Cafe, Surf/Skate shop, Favorite Store. Without your support these Geelong institutions will fade away.

We still have “New Summer Stock” and plenty of other bargains in store, pop in for a look or just come in and say Goodbye.

We really just want to say thanks to everyone who has walked into a Speakys store. You made us better. Thank you.
