In 1896 a Brisbane woman, Jessie Jackson, together with her husband, a Brisbane Water Board executive and their sons, began Jackson Furs from their home in South Brisbane. Tanning and dressing furs under their house, Jessie was to become the business name and sole owner because her husband, as a government utility employee was not able to own a private company. As the story would go, they would wa

lk the North Quay wharves selling the furs to the ship passengers on the cruise liners which had arrived in port at Brisbane City. Remaining a Jackson family business until the 1960’s, a Melbourne family together with business partners took over and it was a fashion force with up to 3 stores in the city for many years. In 2004, Jackson came back into the hands of a Brisbane family and Jackson Furs now moves and shakes with a modern twist from the stoic firm it once was.
