The reason you’re currently receiving your tracking numbers at midnight... 🙊

So overjoyed to welcome a sweet little girl into our family. 🥰 Blakely is very much loved by her big brother also, who has nicknamed her ‘Bubbles’ (🤷🏻‍♀️😅) and is constantly asking for cuddles and trying to help with nappy changes. 😄

If I take a day or two to reply to your email over the next month or so, please forgive me! (Feel free to call if it’s urgent ☺️) xx

Fashions have finally caught on that we want sleeves (maybe a little over-zealously? 😅) and a bit of length, but they still forgot the lining, a closed-in back, and something to hold your tatas in! 🙄

Anyone else get annoyed with low dresses? 🙈

When you become a mother, you go through SO many transformations. Internally, externally, and emotionally.

While I WAS prepared that things like bigger feet, wider hips, and saggier bosoms might be headed my way, one thing that I naively did NOT foresee coming was a transformation of my sense of style.

I guess in one regard, it did stem from physical changes, but I also found the mental checklist had changed as I was deciding what to wear each morning. I was spending a LOT of time on the floor with my baby. I needed access to feed easily. I needed to duck to the Post Office every afternoon without having to get changed, and still feel stylish doing it.

I also wasn’t quite as proud of my excess mum-tum as I had been about my beautiful bump, so old maternity clothes were out of the question. (Not to mention being sick of them all.) And pre-pregnancy clothes that hugged my curves just made me feel uneasy and uncomfortable.

So, it has taken me a full 18 months to arrive at this point. This point looks a little blurry if I’m honest and you may have noticed a slow-down in our releases lately. I absolutely adore all the collections we’ve released this year, each of them would have been pieces I reached for time and time again in my pre-children life, but now I’m feeling that they just aren’t ‘me’ anymore.

That may sound a little selfish but if I don’t live, breathe, and love what I’m designing - then there’s no passion and no point.

I started this business straight out of a corporate job where I was desperate for fun and feminine office attire and that was the gap that so badly needed filling in the fashion industry. My life is now a stay-at-home mum and business owner and that wardrobe looks entirely different.

As a one-woman show, this label needs to pivot and evolve with me as it grows and I can now see a new gap opening in the market for bright and feminine pieces that flatter a post-baby body, no matter how many decades ago you had your children! What you can expect from us moving forward is the same high quality, attention-to-detail, thoroughly-tested pieces that you’ve always counted on.

I’m excited for the future of Cousin Billie and the fresh changes that you will see in our new collections. We’re still dealing with Covid delays with our Melbourne manufacturers but hoping to be back on schedule by AW22.

Thank-you all for being here, and for your loyalty and support since Day 1 of this label. I hope that this feeling resonates with some of you too. I’m excited to start again clean and fill all of your wardrobes with colour and quality!

Do you know what 52 releases per year looks like from behind the glitz and glamour?

It looks like women with bleeding fingers and lungs filled with dust working 80+ hours a week. It looks like crowded factories with unsafe wiring, and no ventilation or sunlight. It looks like small children who should be outside playing or at school learning, being forced to work, shower and sleep at the factories. It looks like waterways that people and animals rely on for drinking water and food being polluted with dyes and chemicals. It looks like cotton farmers daily committing su***de due to the cost of chemicals and the low price they're paid for their crop. It looks like villages surrounded by towering landfills of western society's 'donated' clothing. It looks like big-wig CEOs getting richer while the 'lower class' starve to death.

The pace is dizzying as they sacrifice quality, ethics, and human life for another dollar in their pockets.

Gone are the days of clothes being carefully considered investments and now are the days of TikTok 'hauls'. Where women take pride in the fact that their 53 new pieces of clothing only cost $200. They don't see the mothers who've left their dear little children with their grandparents for a year to work in a factory 6 hours away and sleep on concrete floors with nothing but rice for dinner. My bet is, most of those 'haul' garments wouldn't get worn, even if they did survive the first wash without falling apart.

The only way we can slow down this frenzy is by not fuelling it. Purchasing poor quality, inexpensive clothing is only supporting the horror that these people live in. Let's free the poor women and children, pay them a decent living wage, let's slow it down and put their skills to good use, making QUALITY clothes, in SAFE factories, for 7 hours a day, without being abused.

Because I'm tired of crying over emails like one I got this week saying 'Wednesdays are for new', from brands that I used to love. I'm sorry but SUMMER is for new, not Wednesdays.

Getting everything ready for production today! 🎉

This involves a lot of counting labels and zips, calculating fabric usage, checking pattern pieces, making final notes on the sample and production brief, etc. so that there is absolutely no room for error.

This step is so satisfying because there is an enormous amount of work that goes into the logistics of getting all of this ready. One simple example is our care labels which we specially design and have made for each individual design, rather than just buying standard ‘fabric type’ tags in a roll of 10,000.
