Wandering the Salamanca Market on a Saturday, browsing the stalls, listening to the stallholders about what makes them tick and hearing their concerns is so rewarding.

Council needs to listen to, and actually hear the issues they raise when we are making decisions regarding Salamanca Market.

The stallholders are the heart of the market.

Great turn up last night !!

Council doesn't make the Salamanca Market the most visited tourist attraction in Tasmania, the stallholders do. Listening to the packed crowd of unhappy stallholders, this fact has been lost among many at Town Hall.

Hearing their stories, concerns and feedback on the process to date on deciding the new Stallholders agreement, it's clearer than ever that transparency in the way Council conducts its business has worsened into a critical state.

If this was any other level of government, this process would get torn to shreds at estimates hearings. Perhaps we need something similar at the Council level to ensure that Town Hall is working in the best interests of the public.

'Will' and 'may'... two little words with very different meanings. I won't be supporting any change to the Salamanca Stallholders licence contract that removes the stallholders fair security of tenure and devalues their hard-earned businesses.

I won't support the contract between Council and stallholders changing from the stallholders "will" be offered another contract (unless something truly exceptional happens) to "may" be offered another contract.
