the market.

the market. the market is a boutique art + design event, showcasing independent Tasmanian designers, makers and producers.

Permanently closed.

It is held variously throughout the year in the intriguing Masonic Temple, Hobart. Since its inception in 2009, it has become widely known for its exciting line up of exclusively local labels, along with its firm focus on authenticity and craftsmanship. With an impressive collection of exhibitors from a wide range of disciplines, visitors to the market can expect to see established fashion illustr

ators sitting alongside small scale producers of bespoke ceramics. A very particular approach to stallholder selection ensures that while exhibitors are vastly different in almost every way, they all have a common thread: creative talent, a demonstrated integrity in their business ethos and original thought in their design process. the market was started by Shannon Robertson & Holly Webber, who were committed in their mission to unearth and show off Tasmania’s veritable web of undiscovered talent, world-class products and the intriguing stories and inspiration behind the commercial reality of small scale designers and makers. Shannon & Holly curated their last market Xmas 2016. From 2017 the market is curated by Felicity Dawson who is following on with the same mission in mind. Felicity has worked as a designer and maker (both knitting and sewing), patternmaker, book editor, author, librarian, and spent many years in the film industry and advertising, doing everything from finding locations, continuity, producing, to designing and making costumes. These experiences contribute to her understanding the complexities of life as an artisan She is committed to encourage and support talented and skilled people.

After two wonderful years running The Market, I have decided it’s now time to work on my own projects.

This leaves talented and skilled Tasmanian artisans with one less outlet to sell their wares. It would be amazing if you know of someone out there, or even yourself, who would love to showcase so many quality craftspeople.

If the idea of carrying on The Market appeals to you, please get in touch with me via Messenger to have a chat.

The Market has been loyally supported by many makers who have soared to greater successes. As well, vast numbers of visitors and locals have been eager to do their bit too by attending The Market and buying wares to keep our quality artists, designers and creators working hard on beautiful products.

This is an opportunity to get the craft to the people. I’d love to hear from you.
