We’ve got wet weather gear, or rain wear, that is perfect for lads and lasses who need to face the elements on a regular basis. This is rain wear that is built to last and built to give you protection when it’s pouring down in bucket loads. Our Mackay work wear and clothing business is family owned, passed down to the third generation. We pride ourselves on our long commitment to good old fashioned customer service and our staff are happy to help you with boot fitting and clothing selection. Everyone is welcome here at P. 90 years! Wow! We have achieved a lot in that time.
We were pioneers for the workwear industry in Mackay, and we still stock many quality workwear and country wear brands that stand the test of time.

As for us… Our invoices are still hand-written, stock control is done manually, and our cash register is still in use (it was converted to decimal currency in 1966!). Our store is full of our history including the counters, cabinets and shelving (some of which transferred from the old café), and the only computer is in the office!

Many of Peter Comino’s children and grandchildren grew up spending time within the shop, whether it be working or playing hide and seek behind the counters and shelves!

During the 1970s, Jim (Emmanuel) managed the clothing store whilst brother Cyril operated Comino’s Camping at 8 Sydney Street. This store later merged with P. Comino & Sons. In 1986, Cyril retired and his daughter, Vassie, took over the managing role.

The Comino family is deeply ingrained in Mackay history as pioneer business owners.

After arriving from Greece in 1904, Peter Comino opened Sydney Oyster Saloon in Sydney Street in 1906. In 1918, a cyclone hit Mackay which called for repairs and renovations, and they then reopened the café as Britannia Café.

Throughout the years, Peter and Vasiliki’s 10 children worked in the cafés and later the clothing store.
