A LITTLE UPDATE FROM RPM
We thought we'd let our customers know about something unsettling that happened to us on Friday night.
After midnight, while Steve was still working in the shop behind closed doors, somebody entered the property through the back gate and then entered our home while Lizzie was asleep.
They spent a considerable amount of time inside the house, took the keys to the shop and the car, and then stole the car. What makes it even more unsettling is that, as far as we can tell, nothing else was taken from the house.
We discovered what had happened at around 4am. Neither of us got any further sleep that night. We reported everything to the police, had to guard the property for the rest of the night and organise an emergency locksmith first thing in the morning, before the police investigation began. We have a significant amount of security footage.
Thankfully, neither of us was hurt. But having somebody inside your home while you're asleep is a pretty horrible feeling, and it's been an exhausting, frustrating and unsettling few days.
The car was found abandoned the following day in Dulwich Hill, blocking somebody's driveway. It's now with the police, who are conducting a thorough examination. An item that could potentially have been used as a weapon was also found inside the vehicle, which is obviously another matter we're leaving entirely in the hands of the police.
We've already taken significant steps to improve security even further. We've had to arrange an emergency change of locks for the house and business at considerable expense, and there will be further costs involved in changing the remaining locks and security arrangements, including those on the car and post box.
We're expecting to have the car back over the next few days, once the police have completed their examination.
There are a lot of questions we have ourselves, and a lot of things we could say, but we don't want to say too much more while the police investigation is underway, for obvious reasons.
The police have been prompt, professional and extremely diligent throughout. The detective we've dealt with has given us every impression of being determined to get an outcome. We've been very impressed by the way the police have handled everything and have complete faith in their investigation.
We wanted to tell our customers because RPM is a big part of our lives, and over the years you've become a big part of it too.
We also wanted to remind everyone to be extra diligent about the security of your homes, your possessions and, most importantly, your families. Sadly, there are people out there who will take advantage of any opportunity.
Ultimately, we're okay. But it's been a pretty rough few days.
Shaken, but not stirred.
