We’re heading to the Early Childhood Australia National Conference! 🌿

We’re delighted to share that Bellbird will be attending the ECA National Conference, and we’re grateful to once again be part of a community that brings together so many passionate people from across the early childhood sector.

We know people travel from all over Australia to attend this wonderful event, and we’re looking forward to catching up with familiar faces, making new connections and being part of the conversations happening across the conference.

If you’re attending and would like to learn more about Bellbird, discuss your centre’s needs, explore a particular project or simply have a little more time with our team, we’d be very happy to coordinate a one on one appointment while you’re there.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out ahead of the conference so we can make time for you.

We can’t wait to see everyone there! 💙

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and special people who bring laughter, love and plenty of fun to the little lives around them. Thank you for the encouragement, the adventures, the everyday moments and, of course, the endless supply of dad jokes that make us laugh, groan and roll our eyes in equal measure. We hope today brings a few laughs your way too. 💙

We see you. We appreciate you. Thank you. 💙

By the age of five, around 90% of a child’s brain development has already taken place, making these early years and the everyday moments within them so important.

We know not every day is rainbows and sunshine, but the patience, kindness and care you bring makes a difference.

For the curiosity you inspire, the confidence you nurture and the care you give, thank you for helping shape the next generation.

Today, on Early Childhood Educators’ Day, we celebrate you and the important work you do every day.

Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day from all of us at Bellbird.

When children build, they’re doing so much more than stacking blocks.

They’re testing ideas, exploring balance, solving problems and making decisions. They’re discovering what happens when something doesn’t quite go to plan, then adjusting, rebuilding and trying again.

Construction play creates natural opportunities for early STEM learning, but its value reaches even further. As ideas begin to take shape, children are developing spatial awareness, creativity, persistence and communication, while learning to collaborate and bring shared ideas to life.

Sometimes the tower that falls teaches just as much as the one that stays standing.

We were lucky enough to once again be invited to the Northern Schools Early Years Cluster Conference last week, and what a lovely day it was.

Seeing so many familiar, friendly faces and being welcomed back with quite literal open arms gave us all the warm and fuzzies.

There’s something very special about spending a day surrounded by people who genuinely love what they do. The warmth, enthusiasm and care we experienced throughout the day made it very easy to see why so many families choose to entrust their children to these wonderful educators and Northern Schools teams.

A big thank you to Sigi Hyett and the Northern Schools Early Years Cluster team for inviting us back, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello, have a chat and share what’s happening in their centres.

We loved being part of it and look forward to seeing you all again next year!

How many emotions have you felt today?

How many could you name? And how did you navigate your way through them?

Recognising an emotion, finding the words to express it, understanding how someone else might be feeling and learning what helps us regulate are skills that develop from the earliest years.

Social and emotional learning gives children opportunities to build these skills through everyday conversations, relationships, play and intentional learning experiences.

It connects strongly with the EYLF V2.0, particularly Outcome 1, Children have a strong sense of identity, and Outcome 3, Children have a strong sense of wellbeing. From developing self regulation and resilience to building empathy and learning to interact with others respectfully, these foundations support children well beyond the early years.

We've brought together a collection of purposeful resources to help educators explore emotions with children, build emotional language, encourage conversations and support regulation in everyday learning environments.

Science Week starts this Saturday. Looking for a simple activity? Try building a ball run.

One topic that kept coming up in our conversations with educators over the past few weeks was making STEM engaging without making it complicated.

A ball run is a perfect example.

As children build, test and redesign their ramps, they're naturally asking questions, making predictions and experimenting with concepts like gravity, speed and momentum. Every adjustment becomes another opportunity to observe, problem-solve and try again.

The best part? There isn't a "right" answer. Every design is different, and every redesign builds confidence alongside critical thinking.

If you're looking for a hands-on Science Week experience, dust off the ramps, blocks or loose parts already in your learning environment and see where children's curiosity leads.

🔬 What STEM activity are you planning for Science Week?

One conversation kept coming up at our recent conference... open-ended play.

We spoke with so many educators about creating experiences where children lead the learning, and it reminded us that sometimes the simplest resources inspire the richest play.

A collection of blocks might become a pirate ship today, winding roads tomorrow, or an entire city by the end of the afternoon. Children see possibilities that we often don't.

With Father's Day approaching, it also feels like a timely reminder that these creations don't have to stay in the learning environment. Invite children to build something they're excited to share with a dad, grandparent, carer or another special person in their life. It's a simple way to celebrate relationships while encouraging creativity, communication and storytelling.

If your blocks have been tucked away lately, perhaps this is the perfect resaon to bring them back out and see where children's imaginations take them.

💛 We'd love to hear... what's the most imaginative thing you've seen children build?
