Just over one week to go until our community repair workshops presented as part of the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Independent Programme 2024 and hosted by RMIT Activator, Carlton

Monday 26 February – Friday 1 March 2024

Fashion Fix Lab is investigating where clothes break by fixing them. Bring your garments in need of mending or alteration. We’ll help you with repair techniques ranging from inconspicuous to decorative. Sewing supplies are provided and all levels from novice to experienced welcome. Please book a session time at booking link. Your repairs completed at the workshop will also be documented and contribute to the Fashion Fix research project at RMIT University to create a database of mending aimed at informing knowledge of garment longevity and durability.

A highlight of this year for us has been taking part in RMIT PlaceLab's Wear and Care project. We ran a series of six community repair workshops earlier this year which were instrumental in understanding the community repair movement and its potential.

An exploration into methods of fashion “rewilding” in Brunswick. Gathering locals, retailers, and researchers to learn about and encourage practices that mend, repair and share clothing to build a local response towards a new fashion system.

We are pleased to collaborate on this workshop on Thursday:

Exploring the textile palette of designer Tom Trandt Minh Đạo in collaboration with the Repair Café at First Site Gallery RMIT.

This collaborative workshop with visiting Vietnamese designer Tom Trandt Minh Đạo from Moi Dien and the Repair Café at RMIT will explore the nexus of textile embellishment and expressive mending methods. Starting with textile remnants and fabric manipulation techniques from Tom Trandt Minh Đạo you will develop their application to mend your torn, unworn or unfavourably decorated clothing and accessories.
