I know it's a bit late, but on this Women's Day, I want to shout out at least once to the most amazing woman in my life: my Mom. Maybe she's such an overachiever who has worn many hats gracefully and with ease that I always knew deep down - whatever struggles I am going through in my life juggling a full-time job along with caring for two young kids - I know I can do more. I have seen her as a strong professor who keeps an entire class of rowdy teenagers on their toes, at the same time as a student (when she was pursuing her Doctorate and Postdoctorate), a loving mother who drops everything when either my sister or I are in trouble, a strict mother who made sure we eat healthy, finish our studies on time, and overall keep up with life, and a loving wife who prepares a lavish lunch for Dad on his workday weekends and as a loving sister. After my pregnancies, when I hesitated to return to work out of fear for leaving my infants, she made the courageous decision to put her own career on hold to ensure my smooth transition back to work โ a sacrifice she continues to make for my sister as well. I often joke with her, saying that if I ever vanish from the face of the earth, she should never hand my kids over to Jose (my husband), because she's the only one I trust to raise them right. I've witnessed her move crowds with her inspiring speeches and stories, and I can't help but follow in her footsteps whenever I get the chance. This is why they say mothers are true superheroes โ embodying every virtue imaginable in a single person. Here's to you, Mom โ thank you for being the ultimate role model and the rock of our family. ๐
