Details on my millinery for the Melbourne Cup 🌸

This piece was inspired by the statement flowers in my dress. I wanted to create something fun and colourful for cup day.

The base for this piece was blocked from a pre existing hat that I repurposed.
The flowers have been made from raffia and created on a flower loom.
Fun fact ~ I wanted to create a larger flower but didn’t have a loom large enough so my dad created me a custom sized loom to make the larger lilac flower for this piece.
The leaves are also made from raffia, which I have woven around a wire structure.

Whilst the focus of cup day was on my millinery award entry I also design and made myself a custom millinery piece to match my dress.

I find it really inspiring and enjoyable to design and create custom pieces to match outfits.
