To yesterday’s point:
There is no perfect time or place… you just start.
13.5 years on, I don’t have some fancy workshop, I don’t have a bunch of space, I don’t always have the right tools for the job but I press forward.
To me, all I want is to make cool stuff that interests me for the rest of my life and, even pressed for space and time, I can still do that.
It’ll just take a little longer and I’ll be a little more cramped while I do it…
But it’s not going to stop me.
Not waiting for perfect conditions.
Just making the work happen.

I’ve spoken to a few colleagues a lot recently about the different kinds of people we see come in and out of film, how some will order things, wait for the perfect circumstances and say “well, I can’t do x until y,” …sometimes, absolutely valid. But then the other type where we go, we have 20 minutes, only what we have on hand and we need a solution.

I think, being that I’m using half built Bolters as glue weights, we might be able to figure out which type I am… 🤣

It’s never pretty, it’s never smooth… but the props come together regardless.
Working on the Fortnite Surgical Burst this afternoon.
My first proper full week day not on film since April and all I wanted to do was get stuck straight into my props!

And that’s a wrap on Fog City 2026!
So good to be a part of an AMAZING props team as one of the mould makers and work alongside such talented people. (As always, I have to stipulate on this one, me as myself, not me as my business). On my way home from the wrap party now.
No, I’m not used to being clean shaven but our 3D printer specialist took a 3D scan of my head for a future project of mine so it was a necessity. Don’t worry, beard will be back shortly.

Now, that said, looking forward to having some personal prop updates for you here over the next few days while I wait for an. Official start date on the next one… will it be Monday? Will it be next week? We’ll find out soon enough!

Here’s where I’ve been since April… but also here on and off for years over many productions with many crews and 6 departments…
Even spotted a few bits and pieces I helped make in this show reel.
Just sayin’… we’re pretty good!

Discussing the little doll arm moulds today with my film department 2IC today as we’ve worked prosthetics together a few times before. We’re pretty sure it takes *almost* the same amount of time to mould tiny doll arms (especially these as they’re 65+ years old and delicate) as it does to mould LifeSize ones as scaling down intricacies and details takes real time!
I’ll pour a set of these up for my colleague tomorrow but down to the last 2 days on the current gig.
Been in the Props Manufacture team on this production since mid April.
Keen for the next adventure.

Got a few people to respond to this evening so, if you’re waiting on me, please shoot me a quick reminder?

So I tend to be known for one thing, right? Replicating pew pews as props….
But it’s so much more than that.
I’m a film industry generalist, having worked 6 departments, over the course of 13 years… I just tend to keep that separate from my work here (even though my family like to remind me I could absolutely use some of that “clout” to boost my work here).
I sketch and paint (things that aren’t props, that is). I fabricate all sorts of things…
I describe what I do as “creative problem solving on the fly.”
And as for my props here? Scratch builds, prototyping, fibreglassing… all sorts of things, right?
So I do a lot…

But this one may be a new one for me… replicating some 1960’s doll arms for one of my film colleagues… these things predate Barbie and they’re delicate… but, when you know how to mould… well… the sky is the limit!
These are just so she can replace some parts on her personal collection that have broken over the years.

There’s a hell of a lot going on in this build… still sorting out layers and breaks as well as so many other decisions to make as to placement… but it’s a fun one!
Probably not even half way through details.
Hopefully after Friday, I can get all the current builds together for an updated shot and you can all tell me what to mould first! (Fortnite Warforged AR, Fallout Combat Shotgun, Halo M6C SOCOM and Judge Dredd Lawgiver are all pretty much on the table for that as they’re all either ready or almost ready to mould!)

‘Couple more build updates from the last few days. A million little things happening, film gig finishing up this Friday, not sure if I’ll get any down time before jumping onto the next one so making the most of what time I can pull together to get some progress happening.

Quick run to the fulfilment centre on the way home from the studios this afternoon to pack an order. Off to Ireland tomorrow…
I really need to get in here after this current gig is over to tidy, pack and rearrange some things!
