Melbourne is stepping into 1930s San Francisco! 🌉

Fresh off the success of Thrash and War Machine, Victoria is taking centre stage, with Fog City choosing Melbourne as its filming home. 🎥

Melbourne heritage icons like Labassa Mansion, Rippon Lea Estate, Palais Theatre, The Hotel Windsor, and a converted ‘backlot’ at Docklands Studios Melbourne, will be transformed into Depression-era San Francisco.

Just small infrastructure things tonight to help be get things a little more organised.
Some laser cut templates to make racks for my Tamiya paints. Both the little pots and the sprays.
Being that they’ve become my go to for *most* metallics for props, trying to keep stock on hand takes up space when they’re all just thrown in piles.
I’ll cut them on the weekend and see how we go.
Designed them so I should be able to just keep adding and stacking on top.

UPDATE in the ever ongoing shipping saga.
I received an email yesterday essentially saying “due to the nature of my work, Asendia will no longer be shipping my pros and have cancelled my account and refunded my last shipping order.”
The hunt for a new national and international couriers begins again.

Changed my mind.
Snuck one last AC throwing knife prop in before midnight. Pushed forward on a few other things too, just in various stages.
If I only have 2 hours, like I did tonight, you’d best believe I put them to as much use as I’m able.

Literally hands and knees on the floor between other projects and boards I use to hold moulds together just to start figuring out layering and placement.
I had an idea for this where I’d only have to sculpt one side of Nine Lives Stealer and then realised that would be taking the sculpting work away from myself. I don’t sculpt often but I enjoy it when I get to… and that was the whole point of this project… so sculpted it will be!
It’s also a night where I won’t be finishing a restock piece… crushing my 5 day streak… but that’s just how it goes sometimes.
Letting this business stand on its own, not investing any of my own money in it for the rest of the year feels very daunting… but I need to see if I can get back to that place, like I was years ago…
It’s a different world now than it was 13 years ago… and I’m a very different creator than I was when I started this 13 years ago… let’s just see how we go.

This weekend I prioritised rest.
I know, all the people who know me in my day to day are probably hitting the floor with me saying that.
Normally I just keep pushing. I have a lot to achieve and a lot of cool things I want to make and the only way that gets done is putting my hands on tools.
This weekend, facing a lot of exhaustion, I’ve rested. I’ve done a grand total of 4 hours work since Friday (and an hour of that was just a trip to the fulfilment centre and home to pack that order).
New things can wait. I’ve done a little restocking and cut the silhouette of Nine Lives Stealer, that’ll have to be enough.
Prioritise rest when you need to.
I struggle with it.
You may too.
But it helps.

On that last one too, making the decision to get this little storage unit was absolutely one of the best decisions I’ve made.
It’s tiny, sure, but it meant finished props had somewhere to go without me fighting for further space.
It’s still unorganised since my last mini expansion of an extra shelving unit and since adding new box sizes and products… but everything has a place and I’m able to send props out in a hurry because they come here and get packed and ready to go.
I miss having a table full of things to show off (and it honestly boosted sales doing it that way because people were always seeing things they didn’t previously know I made) but this way is a little easier to keep track of what I do and don’t have going.
But, if I go ahead and get some of the larger props from this year moulded… I may need to step up to the next sized unit…

Let me give you a little reality check for a second. I work in a very cramped space. It’s also messy… mostly my fault.
I’ve typically avoided a lot of large pieces over the last few years because having a metre’s worth of material swinging out and hitting everything over and over is frustrating… I decided not to let that stop me… if I want to bring things to life… I have to do it where I’m at, not wait for the perfect time or the perfect space… so am I frustrated and have I knocked into just about everything cutting this new build? Absolutely!
Am I letting it stop me anymore?
No.
Weird, awkward angles, blade on the side for a little more room, almost getting taken out over and over and having to change my cut angle from forward to back about 20 times… but it’s still happening.
