I never expected my 13 year old to look to her mother as a style icon!! I’m sure it won’t last too much longer but I’ll cherish it while I can.
In my experience as a stylist, I have seen first hand what a strong influence our mothers have on our body confidence and self esteem.
Two conclusions I have made, based on experience when it comes to clothing and our daughters would be:
1) Avoid sharing any negative comments about the way you look. Hearing you put yourself down could have an effect on how your daughter feels about herself
2) If she asks for your advice about an outfit or a piece of clothing, try this simple response, ‘how does it make you feel?’. After all, clothing is about the individual. This could avoid pushing any of our own conscious or unconscious biases about how to dress onto our daughter and empower her to make her own choices, confidently.

Meet my lovely client Vicki.
She started a new job late last year (I’m a bit late posting) and needed a wardrobe refresh to make her mark on her new venture. What fun we had! Here are a few of her new outfits, she also purchased some key items to mix back with her existing wardrobe.
I don’t usually ask to take client photos during shops but my instincts told me Vicki would be happy to oblige.

If today I was… sporting sore feet because last night’s dinner and drinks turned into late night dancing, I would absolutely be wearing these white sneakers with a dress for work today. 😉

Sometimes the idea of a dressy shoe is just too unbearable. Fashion is being kind to us right now and giving us alternatives to a more formal shoe.

As we head back to work in these coming months is a sneaker with a dressier outfit now appropriate corporate office attire? If there was ever a time to try it out, the time is now!

Today if I was…. heading out for a girls lunch, with a view and cocktails on the menu I would, without a doubt be wearing this 😉.

On a personal note, can I just say how my life has changed since there are now options other than skinny cut pants and jeans. A white pant/jean in a skinny cut would never have been something I feel comfortable in. In fact I have never completely loved skinny anything on my shape. Thank goodness fashion evolves. If you have ever felt the same, make the switch 💕

Penelope launched her online counselling business late last year. She approached me looking for a range of professional outfits that complemented her branding and vision for a photography session for her website. This is my favourite photo!
