Over the last two years my studio has been many different spaces, I’ve popped up in shops, galleries, op shops, at festivals, dining room tables, retreats and an eco lodge.

In March last year I was at a hostel in Byron Bay, I had itchy hands and needed to do something with them, so I offered to repair clothing for the travellers around me. I didn’t know at the time that this offer would turn into something that fuels me and has me creating in places I never thought I would.

I’m often asked how I do this and sustain it and the honest truth is that I self fund it, sometimes I make a sale or someone will make a donation to my work, I’ve broken even on most of the pop ups but overall it’s something I do for community.

It’s my version of activism, something I can do to make a difference even if it’s small. I document so I can educate and empower people to repair their own clothing. If money didn’t exist I would do this more often but for now I do it when I can - which actually has been quite a lot when I go through these photos.

I’ll be doing a version of this on Saturday at Our Timeless Threads but this time instead I would like to teach and share my knowledge, rather than just do it for people. I have capacity to teach 10 people basic patch and repairs from 10-1 ✨

I’ll then be going down to Nimbin for the fringe festival and sewing, I won’t be doing a pop up but I will have my materials with to me and welcome anyone who would like to come and join me, I’ll have spare needles and thread 🪡

Following that I’ll be heading to Newcastle for a few days (I have capacity for one collaboration, if you’re based there and wanna do something, maybe we can?)

This is all enroute to Majors Creek Festival where I’ll be doing a repair pop up both Saturday and Sunday

Then I’ll be driving back to Glasshouse Mountains Ecolodge to continue my artist residency and begin work on an installation on site.

Me and my Janome Australia sewing machine go everywhere together ♻️ not sponsored, wish it was ✨

Today I installed the curtains in room 7, I’d been missing the opportunity between check ins each time it was available but today I managed to get in there before new guests came! I’ve got a curtain for a communal area to make tomorrow and then I’ll be starting to do cushions, table cloths and more.

I could probably tell you what I’m going to be doing when I refer to the big and exciting thing, but I’m going to do a big reveal and document the whole process when I’m back from Majors Creek Festival

I’ll be on the lodge til the end of this week before I do a road trip down, popping into Byron Bay for a workshop and the Nimbin fringe festival on my way. After those I’ll be back to install the exciting thing! If you want a clue check my latest posts, I’m giving you tiny bits and hints if you look close enough ✨

As if I ever would have known I’d end up here, it really gets better ✨

I forgot who I am for at least the last six months, I’ve been halfway here, it’s been rough but I’m so incredibly lucky to have people in my life that see me even when I can’t. One of those friends is Craig Reasons he believes in my work so much he made a short film about it. We’ve been stunted with a few unplanned hurdles, but the two of us are going to do some pretty cool things now that I remember who I am again.

It feels good to be back and I’m looking forward to sharing with you what I’ve learned ✨

I showed this to a friend a few days ago and as he read it out loud to me, it dawned on me that I jinxed myself.

I remember beginning this poem in December 2024, just after I put a bomb on my perfectly curated life, sold or gave away most of my things and went off on a journey.

I actually had plans, I was going to move to Berlin and create a new life there. I had no idea when I was writing this poem how much chaos I would court.

I never made it to Berlin and instead I’ve ended up going to cities, towns and provinces all through the East Coast of Australia and South East Asia. Constantly moving.

I’ve had to twist, contort, pivot and move in ways I did not anticipate, while I’ve simultaneously been on the most incredible, wild adventure.

There’s been a rapidly moving combination of joy, elation and exploration fighting with grief, stress and fear. Sitting in the unknown can be equally incredible and terrifying.

I can’t tell if I should be more careful with what I write, or be impressed that I somehow cast a spell when I wrote the line “I seek the thrill of unpredictability, where the unexpected leads to something greater than I could have planned” because what I planned would have definitely been cool, but not knowing what’s next means that everything and anything is a possibility, beyond what I can see because I haven’t yet experienced what will guide my next move.

I choose to live there, between the lines of curated chaos, with structure and spontaneity entwined, seeing beauty in the disorder and finding myself between every colour.

A short horror film by migzy mooo testing my sustainable practises with zero preparation 🪡👻

The speed of silliness and creative thinking that spurs from migzy mooo is something that makes hanging out with him so much fun. He’s also an incredibly talented musician (follow him and his incredible girlfriend at Pink Honey ) as well he’s a speedy and spectacular video editor, and after he quizzed me on the reuse potential of dryer lint, he spun this video out of thin air.

I can’t see these ideas in the video developing but I can see the potential of a game show where we brainstorm the creative potential of sustainability and ways we can reuse things ✨

Please note - I do know dryer lint is also full of dirt and other muck, it won’t be used in any Emipeli designs 🪡

I can’t wait to be back in the Byron Region again, the first time I ever did a repair pop up was at the arts hostel when I had itchy hands and a group of travellers surrounding me. I ended up sitting for 8 hours, making new friends and repairing clothing to keep out of landfill

I went viral on both instagram and TikTok at the same time, thousands of people encouraged the idea and since I have done over 20 pop ups along the east coast of Australia and south East Asia

Full circle is coming back to the region, see you for Jazz, food and clothing repair this Thursday! ✨🎶

Some snippets of my time at Glasshouse Mountains Ecolodge where I’ve been doing an artist (designer) in residency.

I met Chris, the owner at an event called sconversations - it was a local business event in the Sunshine Coast, an almost mad hatter style tea party where you got the opportunity to meet farmers and business owners in the region.

I ended up sitting next to Chris and he was telling me plans for the EcoLodge, which he had only recently taken over. He mentioned wanting new curtains and I said something along the lines of “I can make them, I’ve made them before”

I made one set in the following days and then when I took them to the EcoLodge we organised a residency where I could come and stay, while creating patchwork curtains for a number of the rooms here.

It’s been an honour that Chris has trusted me so much with my creativity, he’s trusted my capabilities and vision and let me infuse the world of Emipeli into the space.

I’m really close to finishing the curtains now, but the work I’m doing here has since expanded. I’m redesigning day beds, making new cushion covers, plus another really exciting and big project that I’m not going to disclose just yet - a clue (which might be easier for people who have been following my art for a few years now) Pelispace will be coming to the EcoLodge in a similar but different variation ⭐️
