From humble origins in a small Italian town to dressing the feet of some of the most famous leading ladies of the silver screen, Salvatore Ferragamo is the pinnacle of Italian shoe design.

In 1927, after finishing his apprenticeship in Naples and a stint in Boston, Ferragamo settled and began his business in Florence. Craftmanship and an understanding that elegance and comfort should not negate each other sat at the core of the business. Ferragamo employed around 700 artisans to make the shoes, which are still handmade by these in-house artisans to this day.

He had a unique ability to anticipate and inspire trends, and a reverence for creativity. Ferragamo is coined with inventing the wedge and to some degree the modern reinforced stiletto. It is no doubt why his shoes became the favorites of the likes of Marilyn Monrie and Audrey Hepburn.

After his death in 1960 the business was handed to his wife and children who ensured the ethos their husband and father had strived for was kept alive. Continued championing of creativity and craftmanship ensures a pair of shoes from Salvatore Ferragamo can be cherished season after season after season.
