NUT & BRIGHT
..started when two childhood girlfriends started drawing dresses we wanted to wear. Sketches in hand, we made our first collection and people loved our dresses! No design school. No business plan. No fashion background. But we do WEAR dresses, does that count? With a deep breath of courage, heart-pounding excitement and a dash spontaneity, we decided to make more dresses!

But, we wanted things to be a little different...
PRINTS, DYES & FABRICS
So many brands are using the same bulk-made fabrics so we started designing our own! Yup! - nut & bright prints and colours are exclusively designed and hand-printed or hand-dyed in small batches. In fact, artisanal craft mean that our colours are dyed or printed by eye (not computer) and dried organically in the sun. Mother Nature - sunshine, humidity etc – plays her part in the uniqueness of our fabrics. SOCIALLY MEANINGFUL
DESIGNED IN MELBOURNE, HANDMADE IN THE VILLAGES OF BALI. We wanted the business to be socially meaningful. It's not the easiest way but we wanted to structure it where a community benefits. After much research, we decided to work with a talented Balinese woman. D is a mother of two with no training or background in sewing (sounds familiar?). Out of ambition and faith, she decided to hire one pattern-maker and started a little sewing business. She business is growing and with the support of nut & bright and others, she now engages Head Sew-ers from smaller villages. These Head Sew-ers then engage people in their villages to sew, providing supplementary income to their farming lives. nut & bright dresses are sewn in small batches at the villages, not mass produced in big city factories. In our observation, the villagers sew with a lot of heart and a great deal of care. They are treated with respect (not like human machines), good working conditions and fair exchange. www.nutandbright.blogspot.com
