Bird Tales // Series 4.2 – Ramit Singal

Some people enjoy birds. Ramit has built his entire life around them.

As a consultant ornithologist, guide, author and self-described "24×7 birder", birds shape where he goes, who he meets, and how he experiences the world. What we love most is his belief that birds have a unique way of bringing people together, regardless of background or geography.

His Bird Tales takes us from the Australian mallee to Antarctica, with a few unexpected stops in between.

We're excited to have Ramit as part of Bird Tales.

Bird Tales // Series 4.2 – Andrew Turbill

Andrew’s Bird Tales sits somewhere between science, sound and stillness.

As an environmental educator and wildlife naturalist, Andrew has spent years helping people understand birds beyond what they look like. His work invites us to listen differently, notice more deeply, and understand what birds are really communicating.

His story takes us into rainforest, sky and sound, with a reminder that meeting a bird on its own terms can change the whole experience.

We're excited to have Andrew as part of Bird Tales.

Bird Tales // Series 4.2 – Ruby Gill

Music has always been a huge influence on LYFER, so having Ruby Gill join Bird Tales is something we're super excited about.

As a singer-songwriter, writer, and storyteller, Ruby has a way of noticing life's details. It's a quality that runs through her music and through the way she sees the natural world around her.

Ruby takes us from the forests of regional Victoria to a dream destination far from home, while reminding us that sometimes the most meaningful encounters happen right outside the kitchen window.

We're excited to have Ruby as part of Bird Tales. And if you haven't discovered her music yet, we highly recommend giving it a listen.

BIRD #87 | Superb Parrot

During a visit to Canberra a few years ago, we set out with one goal, to find a Superb Parrot.

Our local guide, Uncle Doug, took us to an unlikely spot, the AIS car park. Sure enough, there they were, feeding in the trees as if they had been waiting for us.

About an hour later, we ran into them again on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin, where we snapped this photo.

With their bright yellow faces and long tails, Superb Parrots are one of Australia's most striking parrots, and that's saying something! They also have a thing for vintage real estate, relying on tree hollows that can take more than 100 years to form.

If we only needed one reason to protect our old forests, the Superb Parrot would be it.

It’s all about the detail.

Made from premium 100% jersey cotton and in collaboration with our friends in Lima, Peru, these tees are soft, structured, and designed for people who spend their lives outdoors.

We added a built in microfibre cloth patch because birders, photographers, and outdoor people are constantly cleaning lenses on whatever fabric they can find.

So we made it part of the tee.

And yep, the LYFER printed on the back is intentionally bold.

To some, it’s just an interesting word. To others, it sparks curiosity, a tap on the shoulder asking, “What’s LYFER?”

To those who know birding, you’ll get it immediately. A subtle nod between people who notice more when they step outside.

Detailed, comfortable, and uniquely LYFER.

We genuinely reckon it’ll become the comfiest tee in your wardrobe.

Modern Birder’s Guide, Vol. 5: What To Do When You Actually See A Bird.

Your calm. Feeling relaxed.
Life is completely in control.

Until a bird appears.

Then suddenly you are fumbling for binoculars, you loose all sense of time, you commence power walking towards something (you don't know what), and suddenly start acting like you’ve just spotted your favourite celebrity.

It's too much.....

What are you actually supposed to look for?

How do you remember details before the bird disappears?

And why does every bird somehow vanish the second you try to identify it?

In this issue of Modern Birders Guide, we unpack the completely normal emotional rollercoaster of seeing a bird.

Read Vol. 5 and explore the full series over at the LYFER website.

These Double Paracord Binocular Strap are about comfort, strength, and bringing a whole lot of design to birding.

We had them made in Greece. It may not be the obvious choice for a Melbourne based birding brand, but for us, it makes complete sense. Greece is a place we’re deeply connected to, and one of the places where LYFER began to take shape.

When we crossed paths with a Greek maker whose work, values, and connection to their local community aligned with ours, it felt right to work together.

The colours celebrate LYFER habitats, with a deliberate flash of orange in the detail. For us, orange represents endangered birds, the ones we want people to notice, remember, and talk about.

Practical gear, with a bigger story around your neck.

It’s all about the birds.

150 episodes of Weekend Birder. This post is an important one for us.

Not only because Kirsty has become a friend, but because what she has created has done so much to raise the profile of birding in Australia and connect thousands of people through birds.

The Superb Fairywren featured in this carousel was photographed by Josh, co-founder of LYFER, during one of those birding moments he'll never forget. One of his favourite bird photos, and the right image to feature in this tribute.

We are proud to have been part of the Weekend Birder journey through Episode 126, Birds, Business and Big Hearts.

And while we always say “It’s all about the birds”, this feels like a reminder that it is also about all of us too.

The people, friendships, stories, curiosity, and connections birds bring into our lives.

Congratulations Kirsty.
Congratulations Weekend Birder.

Also, congratulations to the entire community you’ve helped bring together.

From a recent Avian Journal, we’re sharing one of our guides to bird watching spots across Victoria and South Australia.

We’ll keep adding to it over time, so check back in whenever you need a few ideas on where to head next, whether you’re planning a proper day out or just looking for a new local patch.

Got a spot you’re willing to share? A park, wetland, roadside stop, walking track, or place you found by accident?

We’d love to hear it.

Read the Avian Journal via the link in bio.
