HOUSE at Animal House Fine Arts
Until 30th May 26

There’s a whole lot of big things happening with Melbourne Design Week at the moment, but this one was a real favourite.

It’s a SMALL BIG show with a wide range of artists from emerging to established…a fascinating mix that left me inspired and intrigued.
I was particularly amazed to see some work by Mike Hewson, whose extraordinary exhibition (The Key’s Under The Mat) I just experienced at the last week.

“HOUSE turns the gallery into a semi functional simulation of an apartment lived in by someone who owns nice things but doesn’t really know what to do with them. Featuring prominent Australian and New Zealand artists who’s work references design language, as well as designers who have a background in art, HOUSE brings together a curious array of objects and ultimately asks the question, what happens to these objects after they leave the gallery?“

MELBOURNE DESIGN WEEK / EPHEMERAL EBB

I experienced this beautiful exhibition today and I can still feel it. And smell it!
What a great moooooood. 🍃🌱🧘‍♀️

If you get a chance, it’s on for one last day, tomorrow, Monday the 18th of May.

Curated by .marlene.forbes the exhibition is located in the space in Collingwood Yards.

(30 B Perry St, Collingwood VIC, Australia)

“Ephemeral Ebb is a mixed-media exhibition showcasing innovative work by Australian designers exploring material change and process. Gathering furniture, objects, and textile pieces that blend form and function, the exhibition reflects on transience and transformation through eroded surfaces, precarious forms, and material tensions.

Bringing community together to celebrate thoughtful practice, Ephemeral Ebb foregrounds ingenuity and artistry. An assemblage of works by eight designers, harnessing clay, glass, textile, and aluminium, is augmented by sensory elements of taste, scent, and sound, creating a rich, immersive experience. Weaving an otherworldly narrative that evokes both life and decay, the exhibition invites audiences to engage critically and creatively with our relationship to nature and to consider the evolving future of Australian design.”

📚❤️I’m excited to read this new work of fiction by renowned and much loved singer songwriter Robert Forster, one of the founding members of The Go-Betweens.

Robert is in Melbourne this weekend for the Melbourne Writers Festival with his first event tonight at the Kew Courthouse hosted by Jaclyn Crupi.

We were treated to a live performance along with fabulous insights into his writing habits, his precious guitar and of course the story, which as we hoped, was partly inspired by his own rock and roll experiences, thankfully none in jail!
