Thanks Higgins Stormchasing, shedding some light on the true start of winter

Welcome to the official start of Winter. Not the calendar of June 1st, but the Winter Solstice (June 21st) which marks the meteorological start to Winter.

Today is the shortest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere, and also the true beginning of Winter. The first 3 weeks of June are commonly mild and it doesn't "feel like" Winter - that's because from an Earth's standpoint and meteorologically speaking - it's not Winter. From here on in, conditions will gradually get colder until we peak (from a Nation's standpoint not just SEQLD) around the start of August.
