β˜€οΈπŸ‘€πŸ˜Ž Protect Your Eyes! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘€β˜€οΈ

UV rays, or ultraviolet radiation, are invisible rays emitted by the sun. While necessary for producing vitamin D, overexposure to UV rays can significantly harm your eyes.

We are exposed to two forms of UV rays: UVA and UVB.

UVA is responsible for 95% of all UV radiation, with prolonged exposure contributing to the formation of cataracts and potential eyelid skin cancer.

UVB, however, is more scarce but has a higher intensity. Increased exposure can damage your cornea and contributes to macular degeneration.

Just like your skin, eyes can get sunburned too! No matter what time of year.

Some symptoms of sunburnt eyes can include:

Light sensitivity
A gritty sensation in your eyes
Swollen eyelids
Watery eyes
Redness
Pain or irritation

While Australia is home to some of the best beaches in the world, we also have some of the highest UV scores globally, often reaching level 11 during summer, making it imperative to protect your eyes from UV rays, every time you leave the house.

The good news is that preventing UV damage to your eyes is easy. Slip on your sunglasses, or your photochromic lenses and ask if your clear lenses protect you from UV.

With a simple pair of glasses, you can keep your eyes safe, protected and comfortable.

However you chose to spend this stunningly sunny Sunday, don’t forget to protect your eyes. πŸ‘€ β˜€οΈπŸ˜Ž

Even in autumn and winter, Australia’s UV levels can be high, and that means your eyes still need protection.

Wearing sunglasses year-round helps reduce the risk of conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration, as well as protecting against fine lines and wrinkles.

Make sure your sunnies offer 100% UV protection and meet Australian Standards.

Congratulations Mittagong Pre-School on your award in the Moss Vale Show Society pavilion over the weekend.
In creating their artwork, the children were asked what was their favourite part of themselves.
We love that so many of you chose your eyes.
They’re our favourite part too!

What scares your optometrist more than Friday the 13th?
Glasses in the dishwasher! πŸ˜¬πŸ‘“πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. Seems like a good idea … a quick and easy way to clean your glasses … but the heat used to clean and sterilise your dishes is WAY to hot for glasses and will damage them. Stick to your sprays or warm soapy water, not the high heat of a dishwasher.

As we reach the end of the film award season, we would like to give a huge shout out to our favourite film of 2025 …
πŸŽ¬πŸ‘€πŸΏ My Eyes πŸΏπŸ‘€πŸŽ₯ We were so excited to host a screening of My Eyes at the Empire Cinema late last year, which included a Q&A session with writer, actress, producer and optometrist
And we raised $285 for Vision Australia in the process!
My Eyes is a film of family resilience through a journey of discovery which we give ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️!
