Rose, lavender, sparkle Supima…

Warm evenings, lost walking on a beach. Sounds of cicadas, ringing in the night air. The last of golden sunlight, fading through the dunes on a warm summer’s night. Saudade and longing for lost times, places and people…

Image shows four cones of yarn on a woven, circular mat. Three of the cones are lying on their sides and one is upright. A ceramic jug with dried Agapanthus flowers in it is alongside the yarn.

I’ve been somewhat quiet on socials over the last couple of weeks and this is why! It’s spring in our neck of the woods and that means lambs! These two cuties dropped yesterday afternoon and will stay with their mother in our lambing paddock for two days before meeting the rest of the flock.

No, it’s not ice cream. It’s cashmere, yak, baby camel and silk. I can’t wait to spin this up for weft on another Anna’s Story piece. I’m thinking wall hanging for this one, what say you?

Anna’s Story cowls are steadily coming off the loom! Each one is unique, with its own quirks and features. This one has a section of thick spun, single merino with a delightfully slubby feel and loose, natural fringe.

Anna is love. I cannot describe her any other way. She breathes generosity, wraps you in her warm embrace and sets you at ease. When you leave, you will leave with a basket of goodies. But Anna’s warmth comes from knowing darkness. She has seen herself through the kind of challenges no one ever wants to encounter. The birth of her first child, severely disabled, ushered in a time of intense accountability, resilience, and her heart was cracked open. The bittersweet life of parenting her son knowing he would die mixed with the milky, slow closeness of nurturing a newborn prepared her for the journey, grief, and relief of his death. Knowing he wasn’t suffering anymore helped her to let go of any wishes she could have him back. A mother without her child, Anna continued to turn her parenting love toward herself.

Through the process of loss, Anna found the parts of herself that could not be destroyed, and gratitude for moments, pleasure and connection. She journeyed around the world, reconnecting and re-discovering herself in bath houses, bazaars, books and ceramics. Feeding the people she loved and learning what living her values would require. Starting over.

Anna is love. She is now mother to two more beautiful children, living in happiness with her love, Tim and friend to any lucky soul who crosses her path.

This is Anna’s Story.

Three images featuring a textured, slubby handwoven shawl in rich earthy hues. First image shows the shawl draped over the branch of a gum tree with crisp white snow in the background. Second image shows Anna, a white woman with dark hair and glasses wearing the shawl draped around her shoulders outside in the snow. Thirst image shows Anna wearing the shawl whilst sitting inside. She is touching her face and looking pensively off into the distance.

Throughout our lives, most of us will experience times of difficulties. Be it loss of a loved one, financial hardship, the unlearning of ourselves or family breakdowns, we all have something that has made life hard. But what do we do when these times have passed? Do we just go on like we did before? Continue existing? Or do we learn and grow? Rise from the ashes of our lives and adapt to the new world around us?

This is Anna’s Story.
