Knitting, spinning & sewing my way through life. Sharing the projects, progress and the results.

I’ve poured my heart into trying to grow GillyBee into a business. I’ve learnt so much, met some wonderful people and created pieces I’m really proud of. But if I’m honest with myself, I’ve spent a lot of time chasing growth that never quite came.

So I’m making a change.

From now on, this page is simply going to be my little corner of the internet where I share what I love creating. You’ll see knitting projects, handspun yarn, sewing adventures, things I make for myself, gifts for family and whatever creative idea has captured my attention.

There won’t be product launches, sales posts or encouragement to buy. Instead, I’ll be sharing the joy of making, learning new skills, trying new techniques and celebrating finished projects, and probably a few unfinished ones too.

Creating has always been the part I loved most.

If you’ve followed along so far, thank you. I hope you’ll stay for the creativity, the process and the projects still to come. 🩷

A little while ago, I asked in our local Buy Nothing group if anyone had old jeans they no longer wanted. One lovely lady generously gifted me a few bags of clothing that had belonged to her husband, who had passed away two years earlier.

She shared that she’d been struggling to part with his clothes, and I completely understood why. Sometimes it’s not the fabric we hold onto. It’s the memories.

As a small thank you for her kindness, I wanted to create something special for her. Using some of his clothing, I made this tote bag so a small part of him could continue to be with her in everyday life.

This is why I love sewing. It isn’t always about making something beautiful. Sometimes it’s about preserving memories, honouring a story, and creating something that carries a little piece of someone you love.

I hope this bag brings her comfort every time she uses it

This one was a custom order and honestly I said a little prayer over it the whole way through. Four chickens, hours of work, and a lot of hoping it would all come together the way I pictured it in my head.

She turned out even better than I had hoped, and seeing a custom order come to life like this never gets old. Thank you to the lovely customer who trusted me with this one.

What a lovely chicken patchwork tote bag she turned out to be.

Part two….

I couldn’t find the perfect knitting bag, so I gave up and made my own.

I wanted something that could hold a project, keep my needles organised, store a pattern without folding it in half and still be practical enough to carry anywhere.

This version is so close to being exactly what I had in mind, but just not with the original divider I had intended to add. I’m going to use it for a while first and see if I want to continue to make the divider or not.

What do you think of this bag? Would it work for you?
