More than a workshop .... Join Bonny Shore, a highly experienced basket maker who has spent over 40 years teaching traditional European basketry. Having learned from a Master Craftsman, Bonny brings a depth of knowledge and a genuine passion for preserving and sharing these traditional skills.
Designed especially for beginners, this 12 hour course gently builds your confidence week by week while immersing you in the rhythm and satisfaction of working with your hands. By the end, you will not only have a finished basket, but a strong understanding of the process behind it, so you can continue to make many more in the future.
Throughout the course, you will be introduced to a range of traditional techniques, including:
How to start and structure your work
Opening up the weave
By-staking
Pairing weave
3-rod waling for strength
Randing
Upturning
Creating borders and turn-down finishes
Each technique builds on the last, giving you a well-rounded foundation in basketry.
You will work with rattan — a strong, flexible, and sustainable material that’s perfect for creating durable, long-lasting baskets.
Lisa will be hand dyeing a beautiful selection of rattan for you to choose from, in earthy, natural tones allowing you to create something truly personal.
