This is bias tape.
It is the finishing detail on the neckline of Marie β the bell sleeve jumper I am making from inherited English plum wool.
Most labels do not make their own. They use a pre-made synthetic trim that technically does the job β holds the edge, finishes the seam β but sits slightly wrong against the body and looks slightly wrong against the fabric because it is slightly wrong. A shortcut dressed up as a finish.
I make mine from the same fabric as the garment itself.
Same wool. Same weight. Same colour.
The pressing board you can see underneath my iron belonged to someone else before it belonged to me. Old wood. Inherited fabric. Still doing its job perfectly.
That is what quality looks like. Not newness. Not speed. Not the cheapest way to get it done.
The right material. The right technique. The right hands. Taking the time it actually takes.
Marie is almost ready. And she will feel like nothing you have bought from a label before.
