I passed my favourite tree today that was still in full winter mode. Tbh I was surprised 😲 I was expecting some baby green buds. It got me to thinking in more depth about the season and I realised tomorrow we begin the 10-day downtown to spring.

One simple countdown that anyone who hasn't planned a countdown is to collect garden pebbles, pop them in a common area away from tiny fingers. Each day the child takes one pebble away, the morning they wake up to no pebbles marks the exciting day. You could add a little or a lot to do this alter idea.

If you already have a winter seasonal table set up, one idea is to start swapping items each day until all of the winter items are removed and you are left with a spring table.

A beautiful description of what a seasonal table is from Erica .steiner.connection .

Steiner often spoke of how humans have lost their relationship with the seasons. In ancient
times humans had a much deeper connection with the Earth and would follow the seasons
and their celebrations as a matter of course.
Humans felt connected to the Earth and the festivals were deeply entrenched in their lives. Rather than thinking of the summer solstice in an intellectual manner, they would feel the rising of their spirit in the middle of summer and
begin to sing, dance and recite poetry to celebrate. In winter people would turn inwards and
reflect on their own being. Humans felt the lightness of the Earth in summer and it’s
darkness in winter. This wasn’t felt as a physical feeling as we feel it nowadays – instead it
was experienced on a subconscious level. As humans evolved we lost our sense of
connection with the seasons and the cycle of the Earth. This is evident in the way we
maintain a constant temperature in our homes throughout the year, use artificial lighting at
night and spend vast amounts of time indoors. Bringing a seasonal table into your home and
spending more time outdoors are just two ways that can help you and your child reconnect
with the cycles of nature.

Both Susie and I are homeschooling today.

Today's lesson is on earning money and managing it.

Lately, Aria has felt frustrated at my constant and consistent answer of ‘NO’ to her desire to buy EVERYTHING she sees at the shop.

This morning we got out her three money jars.





We revised their intended purpose and then laid out the opportunity to earn a coin for each day.

On offer for her is $1 for emptying the dishwasher, $.20 for feeding the chooks and $.5c for emptying the recycling bin. And sneaking in behind the gnomes a pile of $2 coins as a bonus for when she would like/ chooses to sort the washing.

We are using our day-of-the-week gnomes to clearly illustrate whether she has done her activities that contribute to the family. The word ‘chores’ are a bit taboo in our home 🏡.

The daffodil symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings. It became associated with new beginnings (and the coming of spring) because it is one of the first perennials to bloom after the winter frost.

The last 10 days have been a whirlwind of ups and down for me. I sunk into nature and handwork for healing and quiet time. Pachamama appeared for answers and guidance. It's been a beautiful reminder that all of the answers are within. We just have to be still and quiet enough to find them.

I snapped this very early bunch of daffodils in my neighbour's yard the day before things turned south. They have brought me loads of joy when I walk past. What a gift.

Now to the new beginnings 🥂

Here’s an easier way we have found to cut down the struggle of the morning rush and trying to get out the door ….

1. If you have little ones that need your attention but you need to get prepared keep some
‘ Special activities’ ( these are generally just toys / items that encourage independent play or curiosity) in a box and pick a different toy each day . Set it up the night before after your bub has gone to bed in an area where you will be predominantly getting ready in the morning, that way they can still feel you close but you can also keep 2 hands free whilst they explore .

2. Hang your washing on hangers. I often put on a load of washing of an evening after the kids have had their bath. Once the load is complete I pop the washing straight onto hangers and hang them ( or you could just lay them on your basket) ready to be put out in the morning when the sun has risen. It only takes me less

The washing out on the line and I feel like I’m winning at the day already.

3. Morning set up.
Seems to be a common theme of preparing the night before for the next day in preparation for setting you up for success and breakfast is no different. Getting as many things for your breakfast out the night before is a great way to save time . Don’t underestimate the power of how simply having your bowls and spoons already set up can make to keeping your morning set up on track .

Made in Maitland, NSW by a young man named Jordy. Jordy has Down Syndrome but doesn't let any challenges get in his way of crafting timber and running errands for locals.
