This week I am refreshing this antique Abbott Buggy which is in its original condition.
This horse (Isle of Amoretta) and buggy combo will be partaking in a drive from Marundah to Barellan for the Good Ol Days Festival first weekend of October. It's a 130km trip but this buggy will only do about 1/3 of that as I don't want to jeopardise it's integrity
So ...I don't want to make anything look new as it's classic the way it is. There are some horrible amateur lines on the black metalwork so I will give the metalwork a fresh coat of black and lightly sand the lacquered timber and feed it with turps and linseed oil.
Pictured here is the swingle bar swivel.. it's called a 'Cup and Saucer' thanks to John Baird who just messaged me it's name... it's a piece of art I think! The groove just needs fresh grease and it's in A1 condition.
In the pictures you can see the removal of the shafts leathers. Unfortunately they were rotten so I will be making new 'Luscious Leather' sleeves to slide on. These will be minutely undersized then wetted and pulled on to fit. The drying shrinks the leather to a firm fit for another 120yrs I hope.😍
I will post more updates as I proceed.
