I often get asked "When should I actually start the couture process for my wedding dress?" My Golden Rule is 12+ months as it's the absolute sweet spot and here's why ➡️⁠

Bridal couture isn't just about a fabulous custom fit, it's also about custom artistry. For many of our JRW brides, we actually design and create our own exclusive laces, unique embroidery and bespoke beaded fabrics from scratch. ⁠

Our fabrics don't always exist on a shelf, they often start as a sketch in our studio ✍️ even for a few of our RTW Collection dresses ⁠

While we can occasionally accommodate shorter timeframes if the production schedule allows, giving your wedding dress a full year gives us the luxury of time to bring these custom textiles to life without tight turnarounds or rush fees. ⁠

As a sustainable bridal label I do my best to save our planet one dress at a time… and hey it’s lots of fun! So I began playing in the studio with one of my dresses I’ve been dying to revamp! ⁠

The original style is sleeveless, so I started by draping some gorgeous georgette fabric on to the dress to see what sheer sleeves would look like vs a cape style sleeve.⁠
⁠
I uploaded my photos into AI to see what sheer sleeves would look like once finished. This got me thinking... what would KATIE look like as a 3-piece bridal set, with the mini skirt option, for dancing 💃 the night away!⁠
⁠
And…. Obviously I had to design a fun and flirty back bow for it too 😛 (why wouldn't you) and KATIE quickly developed into a 4-piece bridal set! If you've been following me for a while you'll know I LOVE to design interchangeable and versatile bridal wear for my brides 🥂⁠

30 mins later the options became:⁠
1️⃣ Ruched or plain bodice⁠
2️⃣ Sleeveless/Sheer sleeve⁠
3️⃣ Full length/Mini Dress⁠
4️⃣ 1-piece/3-piece/4-piece⁠

It features some local WA flowers, and it looks absolutely exquisite against her ivory wedding dress from our Perth Bridal Stockist (more on this one later in the year after her wedding).⁠

The custom process is an evolution. We start with the sketch, we perfect the "toile" (the mock-up), and we adjust it until it’s “just right”.⁠

Seeing that "Not sure" turn into a "YES that's it!" during the illustration design phase is one of the elements I absolutely love in the entire bridal creation process. 🥂🤍⁠
