“I used to be the Corporate Sales Executive for Mercedes Benz on the Sunshine Coast, and every year we would put on an event for our clients, an event not to be missed. We had a lot of rude, entitled, very rich clients that would turn out in their finest to try and outdo each other, because alot of them defined their worth by how much they spent on their cars and clothes and possessions. There was a lady wearing a gorgeous dress and my best friend Shelley, who i had sold a car to and who owned a gorgeous boutique on the coast, wanted me to ask her where she got it. Well this lady wouldn't tell me, until hours and a few wines later, she came up and said 'it cost me $5 from the op shop'. It was the most brilliant thing i had heard, the she had out dressed everyone on the day for the mere sum of $5!
I was an op shopper before then but was addicted from that point on. Because it reminded me that you don't look any less fantastic because you spent $5 on your outfit, no more than you look more fantastic because you spent $5000. And how much better do you feel, knowing the money you spent is going to a good cause.”
