A question that has been asked a few times this week, as we prepare to attend ANZAC services and marches tomorrow :

Why are the bagpipes played in ANZAC Day services and marches?

On Anzac Day, the haunting sound of Scottish bagpipes is a familiar and moving part of dawn services and marches across Australia.
The tradition comes from Scottish military heritage, where lone pipers have long played laments to farewell the fallen. Their stirring music once rallied troops in battle and later became part of Commonwealth remembrance ceremonies.
Australian units with Scottish roots embraced the custom, and by the 1920s the lone piper had become a regular feature at memorials. The most common tune is the solemn lament “Flowers of the Forest”. It symbolises courage, sacrifice, and remembrance — a powerful part of the Anzac spirit.

Have you heard the lone piper at a service ? or heard a band play in aa ANZAC day march ? What does it mean to you ?

We often get asked by our customers "I have my kilt, or I'd like to buy a kilt, but where in Perth, Australia would i get to wear it ?"

Here's just one place to wear it, and there are many more events just like this (or some very different), so there is no excuse to leave your kilt hanging in your wardrobe.

Get your kilt out, dust it off (bring it into The House of Tartan for a dry clean or adjustment if needed), and get yourself along to one of the many fun Ceilidh's or days out here in Perth.
