We have for sale this rare & sort after book "Wooden Fishing Boats" by Gifford Chapman. This book is a a documented and pictorial history of the wooden fishing vessels that have fished the waters off Kangaroo Island.

First Home - The Couta Boat and Victoria's Couta Coast (160 pages) is the history of a distinctly Australian fishing Boat and culture. It records a rich but almost forgotten maritime heritage with its economy centred on Victorian coastal towns and a heart in the stormy waters of Bass Strait.

From the stories of early fishing families to the boats found, restored and conserved since the 1980s, First Home chronicles a voyage guided by an oral map of Victoria's west coast. Along the Way, the couta coast appears, an important rediscovery for Australia's maritime heritage and historical record. This large format book has more than 200 previously unpublished photos and scores of fishermen's tales chronicle a voyage of rediscovery.
