Today was a day of firsts.

Benjy's very first proper concert and my first time watching and listening to at the

It did not disappoint. Some amazing musicianship and some of my favourite pieces of music.

As a brass ba**er this pains me a little..but...holy moly the principal trumpet player gave me goosebumps in Gershwin's summer time. A-may-zing.

The soloist .eve ( ) was just so flawless and generous with her performance too. What an honour to hear the oboe played so beautifully, it was like rolling my ears in silk.

I even managed a little reportage in the half dark.

Today my body and mind felt truly rested and I'm so glad Benjy could experience his first orchestral concert on our very own doorstep. I had no idea you all existed here!

Finally! I have the secret to getting the small one asleep.

I draw. He watches.

I get my creative kicks. He gets super chilled and closes those big peepers.

I feel like I have won the lottery.

He gets all the sleep.

Sketchbook work, even for 15 minutes, eases the mind, especially by the sea.

I don't normally gravitate to landscapes. They're too big and still. I look for constant movement, hustle and bustle, transience and an exchange.

But it's good to challenge my perception of what I like and what I don't. Force myself out of my circle.

Sometimes I find exactly what I need, right here, in front of my eyes, without even knowing it.
