For Linda, being part of Harris Blake & Parsons for the past 20 years has meant much more than simply coming to work each day.

It’s been two decades of getting to know the people who walk through our doors, helping them through different stages of their lives and, in many cases, caring for multiple generations of the same family.

What exactly is the macula and what happens when macular degeneration begins? 👁️

Welcome to Episode One of our new series with Ally.

To understand macular degeneration, we first need to understand the macula itself. Located at the centre of the retina at the back of the eye, the macula plays a huge role in our central vision, helping us read, recognise faces, drive and see fine details clearly.

In this first episode, Ally takes us back to the basics, explaining what the macula does, where macular degeneration occurs and what can begin to happen to our vision as the condition develops.

Macular degeneration primarily affects central vision, which means changes can sometimes show up as blurred or distorted areas, difficulty seeing fine detail or changes in the way straight lines appear.
