Hi everyone!
Recently we’ve been to Victor&Rolf Fashion Artists exhibition in NGV and wanted to share our impressions.
Considering that Victor&Rolf Label exist for around twenty years, and the Dutch Designers are still quiet young, the exhibition is very broad and presents a lot of samples from various collections, and videos explaining the ideas behind the exhibits.
NGV is a perfect place for the show, because in our opinion, it’s much more art than the fashion.
Although often perceived as purely conceptual designers, Victor&Rolf have said that their shows are self –portraits, that they are always are expressions of their state of mind .
In some cases names of the collections reflecting very much its meaning, for an example: Wearable Art collection consist of garments made out of picture frames and canvasses, and after the model’s done her round, the designers undress her and put the garment on the wall, like an old painting.
The Cutting Edge Couture collection consists of beautiful ball gowns with look-like chain-saw cut-outs.
Some installations are quiet humorous and grotesque.
The Fashion Show ready-to-wear collection is certainly not ready to wear and was even featured in one of the Simpsons episodes
One of the latest haute couture collections Performance of Sculptures gives the designers an extra score in contemporary arts.
Throughout the whole exhibition we were surprized and bedazzled and couldn’t help but wonder what the two great talents combined can do.
