Auroville
A return visit for me to bring the group here, a very special place
The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity - in diversity. Today Auroville is recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness.
An experimental, self-sustaining township built on the principles of collective community, home to around 60 nationalities, including people from France, Germany, the United States, and across India. Conceived as the brick-and-mortar version of Indian philosopher Sri Aurobindo’s vision of human unity, Auroville was brought to life in 1968 under the stewardship of Mirra Alfassa, known as the Mother.
At the heart of the township sits the Matrimandir, marking the symbolic birth of a new consciousness.
Designed to eventually house 50,000 residents, the township spirals outward into Industrial, Cultural, Residential, and International Zones, each with its distinctive purpose. A self sufficient community with businesses contributing a percentage or earnings back into Auroville
Encircling it all is the outermost Green Belt of forests and farms
