Throwback to this boater hat I made about 7 years ago, still as wearable today as it was back then! 🙌🏻 I don’t tend to release collections or work by seasons since my customers are based in opposite hemispheres so I just make things that I like making ☺️

Another year passes by and missing our beautiful Sinéad as much as ever 😢 Taken from us far too soon, she would have been 43 today ✨ I’ve been blessed with two beautiful little girls and I know Aunty Sinéad is always with us in spirit but boy do I wish they could have met her 🥺💖 Let’s never complain about getting older, it’s a privilege denied to so many 💔

There first day of Spring here in Oz and the sun is shining ☺️ Spent the morning sorting through some of my materials like these beautiful, soft leathers in every shade of the rainbow 🌈 then a sneaky trip to my leather supplier to buy even more 🫣 All stocked up now 😅 In my defence I was pretty much out of black and white and they are essential for all the lovely Derby Day creations 🖤🤍

We have a new little apprentice joining the BY⭑SHIMMER team next year and we couldn’t be more excited ☺️💖
I’ve been very quiet on here lately! 🫣 We had 4 lovely weeks back in Ireland with our family and friends (despite all the rain 🤪) and now we are back enjoying the winter sunshine here in Sydney ☺️✨
Looking forward to getting back creating again now that we have recovered from the jetlag 😅

Our Story

With a shared passion for creativity, Galway sisters Sinéad and Emer McGovern began their millinery journey back in 2008. Combining both of their names (and their love for all things sparkly!) they created their brand Designs by Shimmer.

With a keen eye for detail and using only the finest quality materials, they handcraft luxury hats, headpieces and crowns perfect for a day at the races or to finish a wedding guest outfit. Their designs have been worn by stylish ladies all around the globe and have been featured on Irish television and print.

Sadly, on 23rd February 2018 after fighting a brave two year battle with breast cancer Sinéad passed away surrounded by her loving family. Her passion for millinery will forever live on and she will always be a part of Designs by Shimmer, sending lots of ideas and inspiration.

Emer is currently based in Sydney, Australia and has been busy creating and sending beautiful headpieces to all corners of the world.
