Dog cave - hooded dog bed
Maggie ❤️🤎🧡 LOVES being under blankets and a few weeks back I bought her a big chain store bed with a hood… within a day there were holes in it as she loves to dig and scratch before settling in. Then I started looking around for a “better” quality one, but who knows how real the reviews are nowadays and can they withstand a pup scratching?
Seeing that I do have plenty of fabric myself 😬 I was out to make my own.
I bought a new dog bed … a big one, with sturdy corduroy fabric , and cut into minky fleece fabric to make “basically” an envelope cushion cover … within the hood sewn in, in between the layers .
First photo is end result , second photo starting point.
Bed is 48x38 “. I made the minty green dot fabric the cushion cover ( cut at 50x40”)
Made the hood ( 35x50, but cut the sides from 50 wide to 40 - trapeze shaped)
First sewed cushion cover and hood together , just on top of each other , the way you want it to show in the end. Then added the envelope backing sides on top —- right side of fabric facing the cover and hood . Zig zag your way around … twice … tadaaa !
Hope that makes sense .. Called Maggie inside for a quick inspection… she scratched , gnarled, dug and found some toys in her bed . A quick side eye and outside she went … bones to chew, chickens to stalk … hopefully it will become a fav spot to sleep !

Pin basting is the worst I reckon … but I did not have any spray glue left so it had to be done …

I could make 8 more of these pics as I like a lot ! I like scrappy, colourful , bold , muted , low volume, solids , printed … I like them all !
Seeing we are posting our item(s) across the world a huge duffel bag filled with a cozie quilt isn’t the option 🤣, I would love something like a mini quilt , a small bag like your Jade’s bag, a hot water bottle cover ( ‘cause the two I have made myself need a friend 🤪) , a sunglasses flex pouch, quilted pillow case … oh so many options !!!!

A girl from work is joining the Navy so why not make a cot quilt for on the ship as a farewell present . I am only 26 blocks in and need 40 more to make a good size for in board .
Valerie has two dachshunds, played AFL for StKilda and Essendon, is from Quebec and loves her motorbike.
I asked her what colour quilt she would want and black and white was the first thing she said .. but some red and yellow would be cool too..
already made up her name tag for the quilt so it will never be given to someone else , used letters from RSS for her name and tiny letters from selvage strips to get her nickname on it as well.
I’ve got some time to make it so lucky no rush .
Blocks are 6.5” , quilt will be 11 rows of 6 blocks .

Added strips, made the puzzle and got a quilt top to show for it.
Quilt top is about 125x160cm , nice throw size … but I’ll add an extra border on one side and top or bottom to make it a tad bigger (:

My quilts are as good as always for sale, so if you like this so far contact me , and see if we can work a sale out.

Block 12. Last big block for this .. filler strips now 😍
I’ll see some blocks together and will try to get a nice pic outside if the weather holds out with rain .
