Finally posting about my entry for the 2024 Lillian Frank AM MBE Millinery Award

This piece is called 'Here and Now', with yards of hand gathered mesh adorning a domed crown, covered in many hand pained pansies. This was the first time entering and whilst i was nervous doing so, I cant wait to enter next year - i already have an idea in mind.

Thank you to for still putting on this competition. In these times, where some places are dropping the fashions, its super nice to see support to a small but vibrant community.

Thank you to my gorgeous model - you were calm whilst i was stressing inside!

In Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup. Last minute sewing on my hat for tomorrow and the piece I’m
Wearing for the Governers House Reception tonight.

However…… I’ve kept it quiet and I think it’s time that I let you all know that I entered and became a finalist in the Lillian Frank AM MBE Millinery Award meaning my gorgeous hat will be parading on a gorgeous model tomorrow at the Cup.

This is my first time entering and I know I’ve been up against some very talented and respected milliners.

Black and Gold - classic.

A small base is surrounded by pleated crin and topped with 3 custom quills covered in gold leaf.

Finished off with a comb and elastic to secure into your hair however you wish to wear this.

2022 Counter Balance Design Award entry by JWH Millinery

I wanted to focus on the counterbalance that most Trans women/men have to go through to achieve some sense of "normality". I am a non-binary gay person. My gender is always in constant flux. However, until recently I have always had to hide that and wear a gender that is uncomfortable for me, whilst still trying to pass as a straight person in public. Wearing this hat, with the droplets, the movement, the not quite sure if “its” straight, evokes that and gives the wearer a peek into the mind of someone, that a small but loud portion of society doesn't like and wants to curb.

John Westwood Hill is the face behind JWH Millinery. John's millinery career started with their own wedding. Since graduating in Millinery at Leeds College of Art in 2011, they have remained a creative soul and are now sharing their skills via their YouTube channel. The 80s, high camp and a love for the weird and wonderful all feature in their work

Todays the day! Live-streaming later today. Opening all my millinery boxes to see what I’ve had in storage.

This mess is a result of all my items finally coming to Australia. I seem to have more millinery boxes than I remember putting into storage.

Think im going to livestream over on YouTube tomorrow as I open the boxes of hats, fabrics and feathers. Probably in the afternoon/early evening.
