RE:BORN by Cultivated + @[Romance Was Born](urn:li:organization:94032457) is an immersive exhibition that explores reimagined beauty: transforming overlooked furniture + discarded forms into works of wonder + discovery.

Launched at Melbourne Design Week with Instyle, @[LoomTex](urn:li:organization:14706029) + many local partners, every detail contributes to a maximalist world of texture + colour, where fashion, art + design converge.

Custom textile prints were developed by Instyle from design concepts by Romance Was Born, printed locally on textiles woven at @[LoomTex](urn:li:organization:14706029).

Each motif reinterprets historic flora + fauna into a contemporary textile expression, translated into large-scale, repeating patterns for richly layered drapery.

The textiles originate from surplus lengths produced during R+D + will be repurposed by Cultivated + @[Romance Was Born](urn:li:organization:94032457), with each component of RE:BORN designed to live on beyond the exhibition.

Prioritising local craft + Australian manufacturing, the project embraces a closed-loop approach where considered design + zero waste exist as the same instinct, expressed together.

Curated by studio x us, the concept is a powerful reminder that design can revive, reframe + reawaken what was once overlooked, giving it presence + purpose.

RE:BORN is open until 25 July.

The future of Australian manufacturing is more important than ever.

In an era dominated by mass production + offshore supply chains, local textile production remains crucial for a strong + sustainable industry future.

Instyle is a joint owner of LoomTex, the last remaining fully integrated commercial weaving mill + dyehouse in the country, representing a rare + enduring part of Australia’s textile making capability.

For over a century, LoomTex has been part of Geelong’s rich wool + textile history, carrying a proud multigenerational legacy of craftsmanship, technical expertise + industrial knowledge.

Every textile crafted at LoomTex reflects a commitment to superior quality, enduring design + artisanal production, underpinned by investment in technological advancements + sustainable practises.

LoomTex operates within a uniquely localised, low-impact supply chain, enabling greater transparency, reduced emissions + closer working relationships.

Following Geelong’s history as a global wool centre, LoomTex continues the legacy of transforming the finest Australian wool into high-performing fabrics including LIFE Textiles, supporting local wool growers while upholding sustainable practises.

Selecting authentic Australian made textiles helps secure a resilient + sustainable future for Australia’s textile industry, preserving this remarkable capability for generations to come.

Melbourne Design Week returns 14–24 May 2026, with 400+ events across Melbourne.

As part of this year’s program, RE:BORN explores reimagined beauty: transforming overlooked furniture into new forms through a collaboration between and , supported by and .au

More manifesto than display, RE:BORN disrupts assumptions and provokes a shift in perspective around material value: an invitation to pause before discarding, reconsider what already exists and recognise that the most compelling design doesn’t always begin with something new.

Prioritising local craft and Australian manufacturing, the project embraces a closed-loop approach where considered design and zero waste exist as the same instinct expressed together.

Made possible with the support of all collaborators and partners, we’re proud to have contributed to the exhibition through design collaboration with our design studio and Australian made textiles form .au

Earth Day is a reminder to reflect on progress in practise. Our efforts remain future-focussed as we implement transitions that genuinely reduce our planetary footprint.

Burning fossil fuels is the single biggest contributor to climate breakdown. We’re investing in next-generation bio-based materials to lower our carbon footprint + support renewable cycles.

Wool is here to stay + we’re working to define its future. We’re leading a new pioneering lifecycle study on Australian wool textiles, proving biogenic carbon uptake can significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

Local manufacturing matters more than ever. Many of our products are made locally + we’re looking at how we can divert + re-manufacture more waste materials here in Australia.

Designing for circularity is crucial. Over 65% of our products are made from renewable, biodegradable, bio-based or recycled materials.

We’re working to steadily increase this over the coming years, ensuring environmental responsibility + performance go hand in hand.
